I highly suggest that you level up some before undertaking this task. A good place to get experience is from the monsters in Bahamut's Cave. I'd suggest not undertaking this mission until Cecil and Kain are at level 60, Rosa has learned OHoly, and Rydia has learned at least OFlare, both learned at level 55 for the respective characters. When you're ready, head to the crystal towers where you first met FuSoYa. When you step on the square in the center of the crystal room, the eight crystals will send you to path to the moon's core.

As if you couldn't tell by the heroic music, this is the final dungeon. This is the road to Zemus. So soak it all in. All your efforts into this game will achieve fruition in no time. But don't think that it's a one-way passage. If for some reason you need to head back to the surface or to Earth, you can go through the spot where you entered and return, at least for the portion described in this chapter.

So, let's begin. Before you go too far, look for a hidden path in the immediate right after you come out the divot the transporter is in. Work your way around to find a treasure chest. Be careful as it's a monster-in-a-box. Fend off the fiends to get some armor for Edge. Once you find your way back, don't go on your way yet. Check the left wall for a hidden passage as well. This leads to a transporter. Go in it and you'll find yourself in front of a door. As you head in, you'll see a treasure chest that you can only get to through a hidden passage. You also should see a chest you can get to. This one is also a monster-in-a-box, so put up your dukes. You'll get a staff which only Rosa and Cecil can equip. Staves are never good for physical harm, but it improves magic power as well as casting OLife1 when used as an item. You can't get to the hidden chest from that room, so just move onto the next transporter to the left. Head down until you find the door.

Inside, go right and up to the altar that has the sword hovering over it. This is the first of several optional bosses. And since they are optional, that makes them some of the hardest bosses that'll get thrown at you. If I tell you what's in it for you, then you can decide if fighting the boss is worth it. Upon successfully defeating this boss, you'll win a lovely KatanaMurasame. This item can be yours if the price is right—oh, I mean, if you survive.

Before you engage in this fight, it'd be wise if you had Rosa cast OFloat on everyone. This guy is going to start off by just attacking your characters. It's a pretty hefty hit, but you can recover fairly easily. He counters every physical attack by casting OSlow. After a few rounds of attacks and OSlow, he'll bust out his end-all combo: Storm and GaiaRage. If you are floating, however, he'll bypass using GaiaRage and go right back into the physical attacks. It's important to recover from his use of Storm quickly, though.

Cecil is going to attack, of course. If someone has died, though, have him revive them. Kain is in the same boat. Have him Jump unless someone needs reviving. Edge as well: use physical attack unless a member needs reviving. Rosa is going to be the healer, and you're going to need her. If she dies, you're royally... well, you're in trouble. Have her bust out OCure4 on her first turn after Storm. Her first move out of the gate, however, should be to cast OFloat if you didn't before the battle. If she has time before the use of Storm, smack the dragon down with OHoly. Rydia will deep fry the dragon. Whether it be by way of OBaham or OFlare is up to you as both are highly potent against your foe. As long as you remain in fair health in terms of HP, the White Dragon should go down in record time.

Seeing as you haven't gone anywhere into the cave as you should be, it'd be a wise investment to cast OExit to save and recover HP and MP. When you finally make it back to the first room you entered, head down to find a doorway. Head down the hall and to the right where you enter a hidden passage. Go as right as you can then up. When you're adjacent to the floating chest, go left. It's not a direct path to the chest, so go down, left, up, then right when you're next to the chest. When you get its contents, head back to the hidden path and go farther up. When you reach the farthest you go, go left through the room and into the next section via the mini hidden passage. There's a chest next to the door. Grab it and head into the next room. You have several ways to go in this room: left, right, and down. Heading left leads you to a dead end. It looks like there should be a hidden passage along one of the walls, but there isn't. It's a bona fide dead end. A dead also awaits you to the right. The obvious choice is to go down. Before entering the next doorway, examine the wall to the right to find a hidden passage. Go up and to the right to reach the room. But wait, before going back, examine the corner to the right. Another hidden passage. Follow it to the next room. Here you'll find two treasure chests. Congratulations, you now have the complete Dragon armor collection. For best results, equip to Kain. Head back and go through the door. To the far right, you'll find a treasure chest. Head down the stairs to the next level. Head left into the room. In it, you'll find a useful item. Go back out, to the right, down the next set of stairs, and into the next door. Head up and to the left to move on. There's a treasure chest up and to the right when the paths intersect. Head back to the left. Grab the chest before heading into the next section (via the small divot in the wall). As you step out, it's a natural reaction to grab the chest. Be warned that this one is a monster-in-the-box. And it's a Behemoth battle, so it's a toughie. Just use the same Behemoth strategy you used when you fought the trio of Behemoths in Bahamut's cave. After the fight, head down the stairs to the next level.

You'll see another altar with another sword. You can't reach it yet, so go down the stairs. Next to the door, you'll find another treasure chest. But like many of the chests you have gotten so far, this one is a monster-in-the-box. The battle's hard, but this one is worth it. It's the first piece of Cecil's ultimate defense. Head into the room and up the alley. There's a hidden path to the treasure and onward to the right. As soon as you make it to the next body of the path, you'll have two doors to go through: up and down. The door at the bottom leads to a treasure. But as usual, it's guarded by monsters. Take him out and claim your prize. Head back in and then to the door on the upper side of the path. As you come out, you'll see a chest. And, what a surprise, it's guarded by monsters. Beat them down, take the contents, and then proceed to the room to the left. Go around the bend to get the chest before moving on. Surprisingly, this is one of the few very useful chests not guarded by monsters. Head through the doorway, then go get the treasure chest to the left. Surprise, surprise, this one is guarded by monsters. Once you give them a good old-fashioned beat down, you'll acquire the last piece of Cecil's ultimate armor. Head to the right, past the stairs and into the room where you find a treasure chest. Head back out and then down the stairs.

Grab the chests on either side of the floor. You'll then see two sets of stairs. The one on your left leads to a treasure chest. The one on the right leads onward. There is a secret path leading to some mighty fine items and equipment. The secret path is on the platform with the treasure chest. There is a small piece jutting out; this represents the beginning of the secret bridge. Hop over, head up to the black structure. There's a secret path leading to a secret transporter. When you find it, you should be on "B6". Claim the visible treasure, then head right to the transporter. You'll next be on a long staircase. Go through the next transporter and up the long flight of stairs again. This leads to a (monster-guarded) treasure chest. When you defeat the monster, head up the next flight of stairs to the next transporter. This leads to a hidden save point. Huzzah! Rest, save, and all that jazz. As you head out, you'll notice you'll be next to another altar with a sword sticking out of it. This is the best sword in the game. And, as such, you're going to have to fight for it.

You'll find that this guy is similar to Bahamut, and not just in the fact that it's a color swap of the same sprite. Before anyone can do anything, he starts off with MegaFlare, a punishing move similar to the move Bahamut used on you, though not as deadly. Your high HP characters will survive, however Edge and Rydia have a chance of being knocked out by the blow. This wicked dragon's signature move that he repeats is casting OWall on himself. He then continuously casts OFlare on himself, which reflects off him and onto one of your characters. Luckily, thanks to the armor you picked up on the way here, the attack isn't nearly as deadly as it can be. That's basically the only move you're going to see, normally. However, if you think it's a smart thing to forgo the black magic and have Rydia use summons, that'd be a terrible mistake. Wyvern counters any attacking summon with a dose of MegaFire. So steer clear of using summons. Also on the list of moves for Wyvern is Recover, which replenishes his HP 6000 at a time. He only does this everyone once in a while though, so this battle won't be a race.

Here's what you should do. Cecil is going to continue slicing with his sword. Kain is going to Jump. Edge attacks with his dual katana attack. These are the guys who are going to be doing most of the damage. However, Rydia and Rosa can still be useful. First things first, Rosa is the quintessential healer. OCure3 and OCure4 are your best friends in this fight. And if additional curing or reviving is necessary, have Rydia summon OAsura (and hope that you don't get O face instead). However, you can cause damage to him the same way he's causing damage to you. Have Rosa cast OWall on one of your characters. Have Rydia cast OFlare on them to bounce back to the Wyvern. Do the same with Rosa's OHoly. Be careful to notice how long the wall status is as to not accidentally blast your character with a flare when they don't have the wall status anymore.

Find your way back to the area where you first found the secret path, then head into the next room to move on. This is simple as it's a room with a treasure and a door. You know what to do: grab it and go. If only it were that simple. Like many before it, this chest is booby trapped. Beat down your oppressors, acquire your mighty fine reward, and then move on. As you enter the next room, you'll notice a long line of doors along a wall. The first room you come to reveals a save point. Halle-friggin'-lujah! Who couldn't use a rest every so often in a brutal dungeon like this? The rest of the doors all lead to some of the best equipment in the game. Thusly, they're all guarded by heavy hitting optional bosses. The next door down leads to Kain's best weapon in the game. However, the boss you must face is extremely difficult.

Strategy

Not unlike some previous boss battles, in this battle you'll have one goal in mind: as much damage as you can as fast as you can. You're going to be lucky if all of your guys gets one turn in. Plague starts off the battle by casting Doom on everyone. This gives you a countdown until everyone is dead. It says 10 on it. This doesn't necessarily mean 10 seconds. No one knows the exact increment of time between ticks, so just understand that when that 10 becomes 0, you're toast. After awhile, Plague will cast OHaste on everyone. Before you thank him for his generosity, this doesn't really help you in this battle.

So the name of the game is lots of damage in little time. Edge is going to either attack with his swords or, if you have an extra shuriken, have him throw it at the monster. Cecil is going strike with his sword. Kain will Jump. Rosa will use OHoly for big damage. Rydia has options. Either have her blast him with OFlare or OBaham. Or if you've acquired OMeteo at this point, have her use that for big damage. If there is any time left, repeat the process. Plague is just going to sit there waiting for your death, no physical attacks or anything, so you're clear to lay into him. Alternatively, enter the fight with one or two characters dead, and revive them immediately. They won't be affected by the spell, and if Plague casts it again to catch them, it will reset everyone's counters. If you get enough damage in, you'll be the proud owner of Kain's ultimate weapon.

Alternatively, you can start the battle with one character already dead—Doom obviously misses that character, and said character can be resurrected mid-battle without the countdown.

The third and final door along the wall contains two treasure chests containing a status effect nullifying helmet that anyone can equip. Before you can get to those chests, though, you're assaulted by yet another boss.

Strategy

They're bosses, but they fight like regular enemies. This is apparent in the fact that there are two of them. They start off just attacking you with a physical attack and a potent Fire spell that nails all your characters. Their coupe de grace, so to speak, is a combo effect. They cast OWall on themselves. They then take turns casting OBio off one another. And their magic power is strong, so the Bio attack will take a huge chunk out of you. Also, they both have a Recover move that replenishes some of their HP.

But the one thing you can hold over them is their weakness to the Holy element. Now, this may mean nothing to you considering they cast OWall so you can't cast OHoly on them. However, Cecil's SwordLegend, SwordExcalibur, and SwordCrystal are all holy-elemental weapons as is Kain's SpearWhite. So have Cecil and Kain use their physical attack for big damage. Edge is going to attack normally or cast Blitz if you're looking to damage them both at the same time. It's Rosa's job to make sure everyone's up to speed on HP. The Lunasaurs Bio spell is very strong, so a round of OCure4 might in order every time she's up. Rydia will use her strongest summon, be it OTitan, OLevia, or OBaham (the latter being the most suggested). A few whacks from Kain and Cecil and a Bahamut should be enough to knock out the bucket of bones in front of you.

After having undertaking all the battles and claiming the sweet prizes, head onward to the right. Go up the path and down the next set of stairs into the door. When you enter, you'll be in the moon's core.
