The Sylvan Cave is located in the northwest corner of the underworld. Although this place is optional, I highly recommend that you come here because of 1) all the treasure, and 2) coming here lets you get the Sylph summon. NOTE: to get Sylph you must come here before you go to the moon. Be warned before you go in, though, that the monsters here are pretty tough, and many of them use status attacks (bring lots of Heals when you come). Also, some of the floor tiles here will hurt you; casting Float prevents them from doing so. NOTE: whenever you go onto a new screen you must recast Float.

The layout of the cave is pretty much a large maze; it's too complicated for me to go into detail on it, so I'm just going to give you a few pointers, then send you off exploring to find all the stuff. The first room of the cave has only one exit from it, so there's nothing to talk about there. The next room has two exits- one to the top of the screen and one to the bottom of the screen. The one at the bottom will get you to where the Sylphs are, and the one at the top will get you to the bulk of the treasure. At the end of the path that leads to most of the treasure is a teleporter that leads out of the cave. Whether you choose to go to the Sylphs first, or to go to the bulk of the treasure first is up to you. In the Sylphs' house you'll find Yang, although he's not quite all there at the moment. In the upper room of the house is a teleporter that will take you out of the cave. After trying to talk to Yang in the Sylphs' house, go to Fabul and talk to Yang's wife (in the left tower). She'll give you a Frying Pan to use on Yang. Go back to the Sylphs' house and give Yang a good whack with the Pan to get him to his senses. He'll want to help you, but since he's injured the Sylphs will offer to help in his place. Rydia has now learned Sylph. You're not quite done yet, though. Take the Frying Pan back to Yang's wife and she'll give you the Spoon in return, which is the most powerful throwing weapon in the game.
