Baron is now under Golbez's control, so you can't just enter the castle
the regular way. To start, head to the Inn. Here you'll find Yang,
but he's been brainwashed by Golbez and attacks you. He isn't that
hard to beat, though (just use some of Tellah's new spells), and after
you beat him, he snaps out of it and joins you. You also get a key
from him that allows you to access the Weapon and Armor shops, but
more importantly the door on the left of town that leads to Castle
Baron. As soon as you enter the door there's a secret passage on your
right, so be sure not to miss it (and the treasure that's in it).
The underpass to Baron is filled with not-so-secret passages. They're
supposed to be hidden, but if you look closely you can spot their
outlines. Once you make it through the underpass you'll end up in
the moat of the castle. Head around to the left to get through the
castle walls. Once in you can go to Cecil's room to rest, since you've
got a couple of bosses coming up. Head to the throne room, and as
you do Baigan, the captain of the guards will join you. However, it
turns out that he's one of Golbez's lackey's and you'll have to fight
him (see bosses: Baigan). You might want to head back to Cecil's room
to rest again before heading onward, since there's another boss right
ahead. It turns out that the King is actually a monster, in fact,
the water fiend Caignazzo (see bosses: Caignazzo). Once you beat him,
Cid will come in, having just escaped from prison, and will join you.
As you head out, though, you get trapped in a corridor where the walls
start to close in, and Palom and Porom petrify themselves to save
you. Cid then takes you to his newest airship, the Enterprise. As
you take off, though, Kain comes demands that you get the Crystal
of Earth, or Rosa will be killed. Before you head off, though, you
might want to return to Castle Baron, since there are numerous treasures
you can get that weren't accessible before.
NOTE: Now that you have an airship, you can get to most places in
the world. The next two locations are places that are completely optional,
but that you might want to visit just to get the treasure. Also, even
though you can now get anywhere, there are some places that you shouldn't
go, since the monsters there may be too tough for you. My main warning
here is to not go treasure hunting in Castle Eblan, since one of the
chests in the basement contains a trio of Mad Ogres, who will make
short work of your party unless you're on a very high level. |
