8. The Village of Magic

Enemies: Hench, Jinn Bottle, Octoblush, Tempurite, Rolypoly, Cave Bat,
Treasures: Ether x2, Mid Ether, MagicScarf

You'll come out of the closet of two imps who act incredibly surprised that people are warping in and out of their closet. However, these imps are friendly - if you check the cake, they'll restore your HP and MP as a one-time deal, and as you leave, they'll give you advice about the other enemies - called Mystics - in their town.

At the Elder's House, you can learn more about the Mystics from the elder, whose ancestors served Magus. Collect the Speed Tab from the counter downstairs and the Magic Tab from the counter upstairs before leaving. If you fight the enemies at the Medina Inn, you'll get an opportunity to stay at the inn, but it costs 200G. You're better off teleporting back to the End of Time for a quick fix-up. A similar situation exists at the Market - there are powerful weapons and strong armor available, but all the prices are at a ridiculous markup - you probably can't even buy a Shelter at this point. In the Medina Square, you can learn Magus' relations with the Mystics and also about Magus' intentions. In the Forest Ruins, you can get a Mid Ether. Remember this location, as it has a power similar to that of the Sealed Chests and Doors.

Make your way to the west, where you'll meet Melchior. You'll remember him if you spoke with him at the Millennial Fair and he'll mention that there is a way to return to Truce Village by using the Heckran Cave north of his dwelling. He'll also sell you some new equipment. Purchase a BladeRed Katana and two ArmorTitan Vests. You should have gotten the BowRobin Bow, GunPlasma Gun, and ArmHammer Arm from the Factory before.

After getting all your equipment set up, head north to the Heckran Cave.

Upon entering, you'll be attacked by two Hench enemies. Dispatch of them and move forward. Collect the Ether from the chest after climbing down the ladder, fight the enemies, then move to the next room. After fighting the Tempurites, go down into a side-section to get a treasure, a MagicScarf. This increases Magic Power.

Return to the next section and grab the treasures. Fighting the four Tempurites will result in eight valuable Tech Points, so don't run away. The dungeon is straightforward, just continue fighting enemies and grabbing chests along the way. Note the location of the Sealed Chest.

After you exit past the Sealed Chest, you will begin to walk through the water to get to your next destination. Save you game and use a Shelter before moving on, because you're about to fight a boss.

Strategy
You are going to take a beating from this guy. He can only be damaged by magic attacks, so don't bother attacking him at all. Marle and Lucca's Dual Tech Antipode works very well against him. When he tells you to go ahead and attack him, don't listen; he'll counterattack with a powerful move. This is a good time to heal your party as he won't attack you for awhile. Heal when your HP gets below 100 with Mid Tonics and Aura Whirl.

After winning the fight, Lucca and Marle realize that they could go back in time to stop Magus from summoning Lavos by using the gate at the Millennial Fair. Continue past where you fought Heckran and jump into the vortex, which will spit you back right next to Lucca's House.

Speaking of Lucca's house, return and talk to her father to receive a ArmorTaban Vest. Not only does this offer more protection than the ArmorTitan Vest, but Lucca's abysmal speed will be increased by two and her fire guard will increase. Head to the Market next and talk to Fritz, the boy you saved back at the Prison. He'll load you up with goodies, giving you ten Mid Ethers. Talking to Crono's Mom will let you introduce each of your party members. Pull Robo from the End of Time using the Y button for a laugh.

Head back to the fairgrounds and play around a bit if you'd like, but the only thing you're there to do is to go back to the Middle Ages. Head back to the now-dismantled telepod and use the gate. You'll end up in the End of Time, but this creates a pillar to the Gate's original destination, so you are free to return to Truce Canyon.
