9. Lunar Ruins Floors
| Enemies: | Various |
| Treasures: | Various |
Entrance
Enemies: Echidna, Goblin Prince, Lamia Queen, Wicked Mask, Behemoth, Black Flan, Gold Dragon, Great Malboro, Giant Soldier, Giant Warrior
Treasures:
Head down the steps and into the dungeon. You'll appear in random places on the floor with no way to head back. The path to the next area is usually pretty obvious. Make your way around, nabbing the treasure as you head through the maze. You'll come up to a point where there are stairs leading up and one leading down. Up leads to a treasure chest, down leads to the next area. You'll find yourself at a four way intersection. Heading up leads to a dead end, as does heading left. To the right leads to some treasures. Make sure you find the secret passage towards the bottom of the corridor for more treasure chest action. Head back to the intersection then head down to find the door leading onward. After this door, you're out of the entrance.
The next area you come to is the area signifying a trial. There is a save point to the left and a warp back to the surface to the right. Then there's a door. Each door has a specified character that must be in your party to take on the trial. For an in-depth walkthrough of everyone's trial, check out the upcoming chapters.
For now, though, just head past the trial door and onward. You'll get one of the floors listed below, at random.
Battle Royale
Enemies: King Bomb, Gray Bomb, Bomb, Gargoyle, Skeleton, Lamia Queen, Spirit, Palace Guard, Bloodbones, Chaotic Knight, Cockatrice, Goblin Prince
Treasure:
If you thought you could run away forever, you would be wrong. This room is full of battles that you must fight, with no chance to flee. It will resemble the Cave of Summoned Monsters. You'll notice a bad guy right below you. When you talk to it, you'll engage in battle. After its inevitable defeat, it'll vanish for you to move on.. When you move on, you'll see more baddies. To the left and right respectively there are secret passages leading to some swell treasures. But you will have to fight for them. When you're set, head down and fight the two bad guys in your way. Head to the right and find the path to fight two more visible baddies. Head down and then into the dark hallway on the left. And again, two more bad guys block you're path. When you peel them off, you'll see the exit. But if you notice to the left, you'll see a treasure chest with three bad guys in front of it. It is a bounty that is worth the fight. When you get it, head through the door to end your battle royale.
Bombs Away!
Enemies: Balloon, Dark Grenade, King Bomb, Melt Bomb (no data available)
Treasure: Bomb Arm, Bomb,
You'll begin in a village setup surrounded by lava. When you move left or right, you'll notice a flurry of bombs running rampant. When you make your way along the paths, if you bump into one, you'll engage in a fight with them. Heading to the left and down leads to nothing but a dead end. Going up to the right and heading up leads to a flat piece that has a couple goodies. Check the wall all the way to the right to find a precious healing item. Be warned that to get to this flat piece you'll have to go through a see of Melt Bomb whose attack sequence consists of Self-Destruct, which is instant kill on one of your characters. Head back to the center where you started. From there, heading to the right and down leads to a couple of pots containing some treasure. Heading up from there leads to the next room.
Bridge Cavern
Enemies: Crystal Dragon, Magic Dragon
Treasure:
This is a cavern that looks like the Sealed Gate, but is full of wooden bridges. Heading to the immediate left and across that bridge leads to treasure. The corresponding bridge below it leads nowhere, so head back where you came. This place is a little confusing due to the numerous possible paths over the bridges. Along the way, you'll see some treasure worth grabbing. As you make your way down, you'll notice a crate alone on a slab of land. That's worth investigating, as it contains Edward's best weapon.
Chest Upon the Altar
Enemies: Chaotic Knight, Stratoavis, Chimerageist, Catoblepas
Treasure:
In a room looking like another lunar subterrane, you'll notice a singular treasure chest upon an altar. The first time you see it, it'll be a powerful piece of armor for Rydia. Not only that, there's more good news. Every time you come through that room when you come through the Ruins, the chest will be filled every time, so you've got that to look forward to. Granted, you'll never get anything as cool as the
Flan Cavern
Enemies: Yellow Jelly, Golden Flan, Dust Mousse, Black Flan, Purple Bavarois, Red Mousse
Treasure:
As you appear in one cavern, you'll see two soldiers saying they should call for help before admitting it's hopeless, claiming that they wished they had a mage with them. Hopefully you do, otherwise you'll make quick use of the escape buttons. True to their word, the monsters you encounter will only be vulnerable to magic attacks. And they're all of the flan variety. Make your way through the cavern as, otherwise, it's an easily navigated area. As you go down the first bridge, hop over to the thing slab of land to the right and walk down to a treasure. Make your way up and around to the exit.
But, it might prove useful to stick around and slug out a few fights. If you got frustrated trying to find a Flan Princess in the Moon's Core, this is the place to be. One of the randomized fights that pops up is a fight with 8—count 'em, EIGHT—of these pink puffs. While the drop rate of the Pink Tail is still a miniscule 1 in 64, fighting 8 at a time greatly increases the chances of getting one. If you ran out of patience in the Moon's Core, fight around in the Flan Cavern for an hour or so. You may be luckier in your quest for
Library
This room resembles a large library. Talk to the old man in the center of the room. He'll ask you to find the book of Mysidian History. The book is in a different place every time through, so it'll just take some good hard snooping around to find it. The scholars around try to give you hints, but they're often not terribly helpful. Once you find it, bring it back to the old man and he'll tell you the way out.
Numbers
An old man stands in front of a door. When you try to talk to him, he'll mumble a sequence of numbers. Unless you have a sterling memory, you'd do best to write the combination down as it randomizes. Run around the cavern and step on the corresponding numbers in order, then run back to the door which has been unlocked. Mis-step and you're starting over.
The Old Man Has Questions
As soon as you enter this room, an old man will tell you he has questions for you and to answer them truthfully by walking through a corresponding door. The questions consist of personal preference, not only of Cecil and his clan, but of you the gamer. Answer completely and truthfully. You'll then be suited what you be "perfect" as, and given a reward. Here's the list…
Paladin -
Monk - Fruit basket, which includes a Golden Apple and Silver Apple
Mage - Magical Box, which includes a Soma Drop and
Engineer - Mech Set, which includes Alarm Clock and Siren
Ninja - Shuriken Set, including
Bard - Music Box, which comes with Gaia Drum and Gysahl Whistle
Pay Attention!
Treasure:
An old man and a white chocobo are standing in front of a building. This is not the start of a joke. The chocobo is guarding a treasure chest. And there are three cement steps with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 on them. When you talk to the old man, he'll tell you to pay attention as a menagerie heads into the building. He'll then ask you a question about it, so I hope you were paying attention. He'll give you three options, designating one to each concrete step, which you'll then step on to give the answer. If you're correct, treasure and freedom is yours. If you don't, just the freedom. Although, if you do get it wrong, you'll have the option to try again by talking to the old man. The questions are random, ranging from who went in the building first to how many pigs or chocobos there were. Easy stuff, so the treasure should likewise be easy to obtain.
Platinum Toad
Enemies: Platinum Toad
The search for the Platinum Toad begins in a field with many different ways to go. A kid is wandering around. When you talk to him, he says he's looking for the Platinum Toad. When you roam around, you'll see a frog walking around. But be careful. Once you get too close, it'll disappear to another part of the map that you'll have to go find. If you manage to catch it (walk up to it and press A just before he disappears), you'll get sucked into battle. The first thing the toad will do is, obviously, cast
Puppet Hall
Enemies: Death Puppet, Grudge Puppet
Treasure:
It's a long hall full of walking puppets. Run into one and you'll have to endure in a fight against them. And the bad part? There are a ton of them. If you have fancy footwork and good timing, you can hot step around them. There are two paths, left and right. They both lead the same place and have the same amount of chances to get clobbered by puppets. When you slaughter your way through, move on to the door next to the fireplace. If you take the time to take out all the puppets in the room, you'll get Porom's best weapon.
So Many Doors
Enemies: Chaotic Knight, Lamia Queen, Magic Dragon, Stratoavis, Crystal Dragon
Treasure:
This room will begin in a greenish looking cavern with a path leading left and right. Head left and go up to the door. When you try to enter, it'll tell you there is a picture of a lifeless tree. Head to the right where you'll find a pond of water. When you hit A, you'll obtain the Clear Water. Head up to the door, use it, and the door will open. Make sure you check the urn below you for the Firewood which will come in handy later on. The next door you see straight ahead will tell you there is a picture of a lightless lantern. You don't have the special item for this yet, so move on. But hit the urn and obtain the Honey, which will prove useful as well. Head to the right and find the door. It says it has a picture of a small bear. Here's where you use Honey to open the door.
An open flame is the first thing you see. When you approach it, it will say that the Firewood has caught, and turned into a Torch. Head to the right where you'll find a doll sitting in the middle of the room. Go straight down. You'll encounter a hall blocked by rocks. But just below is a hidden passage leading up to a blocked chest. But another hidden passage leads to obtaining it. Head back to the door with the lightless lantern and open it up. This will reveal another door, this one proclaiming it has a picture of a saddened girl on it. Use the doll and the door will open. Go through and follow the hall to the exit.
Sylph Garden
You'll go down three sets of steps to a pool where three sylphs float. Talk to them and they'll heal you along with giving you a
Sylph Oasis
Similar to the Sylph Garden, but not quite as fancy, this floor will look like a garden with a stone wall, and when you go through the door, you'll find a sylph in the center of a body of water who heals your HP and MP. This looks oddly familiar to the Legend of Zelda. Once you're healed, head out the door and down.
Treasure On the Stairs
Enemies: Gilgamesh, Iron Giant, Catoblepas
Treasure:
This one is like the Treasure upon the Altar room, except larger. There is a treasure chest up a set of stairs straight ahead. And like the altar room, it has a fancy treasure the first time through, and keeps getting filled with another item every time you see it.
Treasure Trove
Enemies: Magic Dragon
Treasure: Red Fang, Blue Fang, White Fang, Light Curtain,
This room looks like a new room in the Lunar subterrain. As you go down, you see a room with 12 treasures blocked off. Examine the right wall towards the bottom to find the opening, then feast on the lovely treasure chests. Before heading out, head up to what looks like a dead end hallway. But check the left wall for a hidden passage. Head all the way down to find another trio of lovely treasures begging to be stolen by you. Fully loaded, head down and out.
Warp Chamber
Treasure:
This room is a complex maze comprised of many warp points that resemble the Devil's Road warp points. Each one will send you somewhere different. This entire way is trial and error as it might take awhile to find the right corresponding warp points, and atop that, they seem to be a bit randomized. When you reach the warp point surrounded by pedestals, you've found the exit.
Village on the Pond
This is similar to the Village on the Moon earlier in the ruins, but you can tell it's more of a swampland atmosphere. The same midgets, frogs, and pigs inhabit the area. But this place houses some pretty fascinating stuff. A frog will let you know that there are some of the best items money can buy in their shops, so it's definitely worth investigating... if you're carrying a fat wallet, that is. As soon as you're broke, move along. The Ruins still await.
Village on the Moon
This is a safe haven. It's a fully functioning town that resembles Mithril on Earth, what with the pigs, frogs, and little folk walking around. Take advantage of their hospitality and stop at the inn, snag some items, and just snoop around. When you're set, head onward. There's still a long cavern ahead.
Warriors Only
Enemies: King Behemoth, Proto Phase, Coeurl Regina, Magic Dragon
Treasure: Blue Fang, White Fang, Red Fang,
When you enter, it'll look like a room in the Tower of Babil. You'll see a black mage and a white mage saying how useless it is, and "if only we had brought a warrior with us". As you guess, magic is negated on this floor. If you're party consists of all four mages, make good use of the run buttons. To make matters worse, this is a pretty confusing maze. If you head to the right and find the middle path, it'll lead you to a treasure. The others lead to a dead end. Go back from where you started, then head left. The second path down leads onward, down and around. You'll find a treasure chest available. If you take the path directly straight ahead of you, it'll lead to two more nice pieces of equipment. Go back to the intersection and head up and all the way around until you hit the door.
You might not get to any of these, though. If your floor doesn't look familiar, read on; there are two special boss floors on the way.
