Site Information

The Caves of Narshe was set up by Josh Alvies, a.k.a. Rangers51/R51 as a Final Fantasy VI website, on 31 July 1997. Since then, it has grown into an excellent source of information on FF1, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FFT and CT, with a staff dedicated to constantly improving coverage and interactivity.

Features

In addition to game information and media relating to Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Trigger, we offer a selection of related fanart and fanfiction.

On the interaction side, there are lively discussion forums and an IRC channel.

We hope you enjoy your visit, and that you'll say hello in the forums or chat.

Privacy

Well, we do kind of leave it up to you to determine what you do and don't want known about yourself at CoN. Of course, having an account with our site means that you are willing to share some information with us; however, the majority of that information is completely optional to share. Any information you share with CoN will be publicly visible to your fellow CoN visitors, though we do not bundle this information for any purpose other than metrics which we use only to better your experience.

We do collect a variety of information about you through automated means, typically through the use of the information that your web browser broadcasts about itself to every page you visit, be it on CoN or any other site on the web. This information does not identify you personally; at its most granular, it reports the internet protocol address used to access the site. CoN does not typically review information collected this way except in the cases of abuse of the site, or as part of aggregated data used to analyze site usage trends.

This site uses a tool that collects your requests for pages and passes elements of them to search engines to assist them in indexing this site. We control the configuration of the tool and are responsible for any information sent to the search engines. We allow only data related to your username at CoN and personal website address (where applicable) to be passed along. We strive to block other data, such as your user profile at CoN, from appearing in these search indicies; if you feel we're not doing a good enough job, please let us know and we'll work with you to find a mutually agreeable solution while still improving the site for all of your fellow users!

The Current Design

Designed by Rangers51 and realised by himself and Tiddles, we hope you agree that this is the most visually impressive and easiest to use style in CoN history.

If you'd like to read more about designs past and present, and more about the site's history, try the CoN History feature.

However, to appreciate it in its full glory, you will need a modern browser. Above all, we recommend Mozilla Firefox.

Get Firefox

Failing that, your best bet is a recent browser based on the same codebase ("Gecko"). These include Seamonkey, with which longtime Netscape or Mozilla Suite users should feel at home, or Camino (formerly Chimera) for Macintosh users. Opera is also a fine browser which is now also free, with Apple's Safari and KDE's Konqueror both working well too. If the site looks a bit strange to you, try one of those browsers. We make every effort to ensure that the default style works properly in Microsoft Internet Explorer, but due to an overwhelming number of faults in its compliance with Web standards, we are unable to guarantee that your experience will be as good as with other browsers, or that the site will work at all in alternative styles. Sorry. We strongly recommend using the latest version of any browser, particularly Internet Explorer, which is much improved in its seventh version.

In general, any mostly standards-compliant browser should do the job. Let us know if you have problems.

The site probably looks best maximised at a resolution of 1024×768 or higher. You should have no problems viewing the site at 800×600 (and please contact us if you do), though some pages may look a little squashed. But hey: we're smart enough to know that you're not going to change your resolution to view a Web site, so we hope it's working well for you, regardless of screen size or browser ethnicity.
