13. This Isn't Some Country Club Mountain

Enemies: Spirit, Soul, Ghoul, Lilith, Revenant, Skeleton, Red Bone, Milon, Milon Z
Treasures: OPotion, OEther1

I would suggest you take on a few fights to get used to Palom and Porom. You might want to level them up from their starting levels as well. I'd suggest moving on when Palom and Porom reach level 13.

Right when you enter Mt. Ordeals, you'll see towers of fire blocking your way. Lucky for you, Palom has no problem and uses some ice to cool it off. No emotional scarring for him, shame Rydia's not here to see it.

Cut scene to Golbez summoning one of his minions to destroy Cecil as he climbs the mountain. When you gain control again, begin your ascent up the mountain. Don't worry, it's a big mountain, surely no beast can find you!

Halfway through the next stage, you'll find Tellah roaming around. He was searching the mountain to seek out the ultimate black magic, OMeteo. After some discussion with the youngsters, Tellah decides to rejoin you as you make your way up the mountain. Another spell caster is always a plus.

Continue on through the door onto the next stage of the mountain. Eventually, you'll begin to hear a noise reminiscent of whipping wind. Porom dismisses it as nothing but Palom being childish. You'll see a save point, which is more than a good idea. Use a tent, save it, then move onto the bridge.

As soon as you begin to cross, you'll see that it indeed was not Palom being foolish, but your next boss battle.

This is a pretty tough battle. Not only do you get the big guy, he also comes with a quad of zombies. Those will be your first target. They'll go down with a couple blasts of OFire1 from Tellah and OFire2 from Palom. Next, focus on the beast. His attacks are pretty strong as well as his constant use of OBolt1. Have Cecil attack normally, Tellah counter attack with OBolt1 and the twins use their Twin magic for a big hit. When it comes time to heal, have Tellah use OCure2 and keep the twins using their twin magic. Have Cecil cease his attacks to use potions if completely necessary. The most important thing is to keep the twins using their big attack, and he should be defeated.

As soon as the battle ends, head right back to the save point to restore you HP and MP. Also, it's a good idea to change rows so your weak characters are forward, if not before you go to save then before you get back to the bridge. Trust me, it's wise. When you get back to the bridge, you'll find that you haven't won quite yet as Milon shows his true form as the Element of Earth. Not only that, but he'll pin you in a back attack (so when you changed rows, it's now reversed so your weak characters are in the back for the battle. Smart, eh?). Here comes your first battle with an element fiend. Are you ready?

Strategy

This guy is pretty tough. But as long as your HP stays up, you shouldn't have a lot of trouble. He doesn't do anything special besides his heavy hitting attacks. Keep the same strategy when you battled him minutes earlier. Cecil attacks, Tellah becomes the healer with OCure2, setting off OFire1 if he has time in between healing, and the twins pummel him with their twin magic. Again, if HP gets severely low, then have Cecil stop attacking and use a potion or life when needed. A couple smacks of the twins' magic paired with some good hits by Cecil should doom the fiend.

Don't forget to set your row order back to normal, if you changed it—there's a good chance you could get into a fight again before you finish. Go back and save your game, then continue into the mysterious room. So here's the big crazy ordeals-y thing. Lots of fun stuff and foreshadowing coming now, and then you're done with it.

So now to descend from the mountain. But before you go anywhere, make sure to change your row back to the way it was. Also, if you bought any of the paladin armor, make sure you equip it on Cecil so he won't be clobbered in battle. You may notice that now Cecil is back to level 1. But fear not, those levels will climb very quickly as long as you protect him using your mages for a few battles. Once you get out of Mt. Ordeals, there is a chocobo forest to the south, it's the separated bit of forest in a circle. Grab a chocobo so you can quickly return to Mysidia.
