Subjective Analysis
Samurai are well armed and armored. They have effective, if potentially expensive, abilities that effect large radii of enemies or allies, and their attacks can discriminate between enemy and ally. The Samurai's primary ability set is a great secondary set for magic-users, as MA drives the katana-spells' efficacy. Samurai can hold a sword with two hands, making them very powerful. Don't forget that every use of a Samurai ability risks the loss of the katana!
The skills that are really useful here are Kiku-ichimonji, Muramasa, Murasame, and Kiyomori. For the more advanced primary abilities, well, it's not really that likely you'll have the katana stash at hand to make them useful. In the RSM list, Shirahadori and Bonecrusher are potentially useful. Doublehand isn't really worth the time, as the Ninja's Dual Wield ability is much better at increasing damage with the same drawback of being unable to equip a shield.
