Subjective Analysis
Oracles have a good weapon selection and decent HP making them a sturdier magic user. Their ability to equip pole weapons is very useful. Their abilities are so-so, inflicting status effects on the enemy but not able to inflict significant damage. They're most often one of those stepping-stone jobs, particularly if you want to try out advanced strategies with the Calculator or Mediator.
The action abilities worth picking up here are Paralyze and Sleep. The others do have their uses but are not really worth the time to get them. Defense Up is also quite nice for some of your weaker characters in job classes that don't allow for much tank setup.
