Biography

The Leader of a popular vacation spot by the name of Wutai, Godo appears to have it easy. All he has to do is sit in his house and take care of paperwork. No one has even attempted to climb the Pagoda in ages, and he no longer has to worry about Shinra since the war. Some would call him a sell-out, a pushover, and the loudest to call him such would be his own daughter, Yuffie.

Additional Information

Long ago, Wutai was a powerful and prosperous city, with considerable political influence. The extent of their strength was exemplified by a strong warrior tradition in which the people took great pride.

Unfortunately, this all came to an end about a decade ago. Petty differences sparked a futile war between Wutai and Shinra, with the technologically advanced mega-corporation as the obvious victor. Upon winning the conflict, Shinra quickly went to work claiming the village itself as the spoils.

In a desperate barter for peace, Godo allowed Shinra to use the village as a sort of vacation resort. Utterly humiliated, the people could only watch in despair as Shinra transformed their noble community into a simple tourist trap, leaving a mere shadow of the beauty and grace that was once their culture.

Godo redeems himself later by showing Yuffie that he does hold stock in the old ways still. When she climbs the Pagoda to fight him, they fight a long, harsh battle on the top floor, where the strongest fighter, traditionally, stands guard. Yuffie defeats him, and they both fall to the floor in exhaustion. Godo then reveals his pride in his daughter, in giving her the Leviathan materia and asking Cloud to take her along in their adventure.

Of course, he can't help but also ask her to bring back a lot of materia. Like father, like daughter.
