Ragtime Mouse's Quiz Show

The Ragtimer is a friendly monster that shows up in forests and challenges the player to answer questions, acting as a sort of game show host. To answer, the player attacks the 'O' or 'X' creatures that accompany it, standing for true and false respectively, to answer. Ragtime Mouse, while accompanied by the Friendly Monster music, is not part of the Friendly Monsters sidequest. It can appear only a certain number of times per game disc, so once you've answered these maximum number of questions, whether you get them correct or not, you won't see him again until you transition.

On disc one, you can meet him up to four times; for disc two, the number rises to six; discs three and four share seven appearances, for a grand total of seventeen. To get a chance at all of the questions (and the reward at the end!) you must be sure to see him every possible time per disc. One "trick" to making the ragtimer show up with a high probability is to walk in the forest and once you've found it a first time, move in the same spot by flicking the analog stick gently or by quickly tapping the d-pad. If you do it right, the animation of moving leaves won't happen. Of course, this is slow going for the most part, but it sure beats trial and error and does seem to work quite well.

Once you've gone through sixteen questions, encounter the Ragtime Mouse a seventeenth and last time. When it appears, the X and O monsters will be defeated and he'll give out prizes. Getting all questions correct earns a Protect Ring, 5963 EXP and somewhere between 50000 and 89445 Gil; if you miss one to three questions, you'll get only the accessory, with no EXP or Gil; get four or more answers wrong and you get nothing!
