Folmarv clearly feels that his victory is at hand, and has decided to further abuse Ramza as a parting shot before meeting his ultimate goal.

Mullonde Cathedral Sanctuary

This battle, unexpected and sad, is certainly the last thing Ramza would like to take on. Of course, by now it's quite clear that as in so many things, the choice to fight here, regardless of the outcome, is not his.

Folmarv has pulled Zalbaag from whatever limbo he was sent by the fall of his brother Dycedarg, and now Folmarv has manipulated Zalbaag's body into attacking Ramza. The effect is similar to that found in Argath at Ramza's last encounter at Limberry, with a human who has clearly died along the way resurrected into a form that is little more than a puppet.

Fortunately, this battle is very easy if you prepare for it properly, and serves more for the emotional impact than as a block against progression. Use Divine Ruination, Hallowed Bolt, and Holy, and Zalbaag won't last but a couple rounds. Don't worry about the cronies, as they are slow and likely won't cause enough damage to be a problem while you attack from range. As mentioned last chapter, having ArmletJapa Mala on as many of your party as possible is important, as Zalbaag will use the same vampiric ability as Elmdore to capture your party if possible. If you don't have enough ArmletJapa Mala to equip the whole party - though you should by now - prioritize your healer, followed by Ramza and then your most potent attackers. If you end up needing to heal that status, ItemHoly Water is your go-to.

After the battle, Ramza discovers the dying Marcel who tells him that Alma has been taken by the enemy to Orbonne.

All sidequests are now available, if you haven't been picking up on them as you go. Even if you have, some unlock only after this battle. The next battle starts a sequence with a point of no return until the endgame, so complete any desired questing now and prepare to have a separate save file in case you'd like to return to this point later.
