Does anyone know the best way to kill the Balloons in the Stilshrine?
All my characters are Level 25, and they hit for around 400-500 HP each time, but I use Libra to look at the Balloons HP, and they're only down like 10 after I hit them. What gives? ![]() -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! I am impervious to pain! |

You would think after a decade of playing FFs I would have learned to check elemental attributes. Thanks, mate.

Argh, yes, I had the same problem. (It's Flametongue). I just had Vaan stand back while Ashe and Basch take care of the Balloons. Currently, I've reached Archades and I've spent quite a lot of money buying a lot of Gambits I don't have. I still am missing quite a lot.

Elemental swords can make short work of marks if used properly. If you have any long-range weapons, most ammo is elemental. Careful use of them can help you breeze through any area. For instance, the Zwill Crossblade is wind elemental. There's a variety of demons in the Necrohol that are weak vs wind. My characters do about 2000 per hit. The one with the Crossblade does over 5500. Elemental Weaknesses are not key to defeating Yiazmat(the Final Fantasy XII superboss), but apparently, it makes the battle easier. Yiazmat is a Holy-elemental wyrm and, of course, is vulnerable to Dark damage. All Ninja Swords(from what I've seen) have the Dark element on them, so using them against Yiazmat would be an interesting strategy and from what I hear, Yagyu Darkblade is the strongest weapon to use against Yiazmat.

All ninja sword are inherent dark weapons, and Yiazmat is weak against Dark and absorbs Holy. The key to this fight is proper strategy. Make sure you have Bubble Belts, the Arise spell, and one 'Tank' with haste, bravery, protect, berserk and (most importantly) Decoy. Use your Masamune/Genji Glove combo in hopes of nailing a high combo attack (up to 10 hits for 9999, if you can get lucky) and pay attention to the boss's patterns. Hastega, Protectga, Shellga, and Bubble are all vital spells. Not to mention plenty of Chronos Tears. Make sure your healer has Curaja set for Ally HP=70% or better, and that he has a Sage Ring equipped to manage MP better.
Edit Yagyu Darkblade is a good choice, but it has a VERY poor combo rate. If you want, you can equip it on your second melee fighter, but for your primary, I suggest the Masamune Genji Glove combo. Maxing damage is the key here. This post has been edited by Nytecrawla on 14th December 2006 03:09 -------------------- This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy. The Great Crystal dungeon and Giruvegan in general was a pain to get through, and now I have to get back to the Teleport Crystal at the very beginning to get back to Balfonheim. How much do I have left in the game? I'm guessing about 15-20% of the game left.

You're right Aether, you only have about 15% of the main quest left. Sidequests now, hoo boy. Hope you've been hunting steadily.

I'm actually just about to go there. I haven't done many sidequests yet (except hunting), and I know there's still the Zodiac Spear and about every worthless Esper. I might go and do Adralmech and the Zodiac Spear once I finish up this batch of Marks. -CSM

You just have one (albeit extremely long and arguous) dungeon left. Then you get to go to the final dungeon, which is more like a final area. So you're almost there.

I have it on good authority that the Zodiac Spear can still be gotten if you've opened some chests. But the chance of the chest in question appearing is only about 10%, and the chance of it containing the spear just as low.
The Zodiac Estechuon is another one-shot item - you can get the Brave Suit and then the shield will be gone. But the opposite is only partly true: there are two possible places where you can get the suit in question, so you should get the shield first. I have yet to confirm either of these, but I've seen it mentionned in more than one place. The spear in Nabudis is just the "easy" way of getting it. Finally got to the final area. The damned Pharos must've been the stupidest dungeon I've ever seen, what with not allowing you to save without doing the entire thing over again (unless you're lucky enough to be in an area with a save crystal), cryptic puzzles that dump you in rooms full of nasty enemies when you get them wrong (and the later hints are damned cryptic, too!), and quite a long final scene at the top. Do NOT tackle this dungeon if you don't have a good weekend afternoon ahead of you. :x Still looking for the hidden shop in Nabudis, but I think I know where it is now... ![]() Edit: The "second" Zodiac spear chest isn't in Nabudis - just specifying because it sounded a little misleading. I'm really not sure where, though - I THINK it's in the Crystal. I'm just about to head to the Pharos now. Maybe before that, I should do some sidequests. Here's what I have:
-Zalera -Adralmechh -Zodiac Spear (but I don't have access to the licence yet!) -All hunts up to Gilgamesh -Beat Gilgamesh once (and have Genji Shield/Gloves (but not the licenses!)) What other sidequests do I have available to me now? What's in the rest of the Nechrol of Nabudis that's worth it? Should I take on Zeromus/Entites with a level 68 Vaan and level 53 everyone else (reminder: no Zodiac Spear, Level 3 Quickenings, or magic)? What other sidequests should I do? -CSM Also, when do I get Slow and Haste 2, Black Magic spells higher than the Level 3 Trinity spells, Holy, and Renew? Zeromus, you should've done that a LONG time ago, but be warn, try and get as many technicks as possible, all magicks are disabled in this fight. Good luck!!
It is posible to defeat Zeromus at Level 35, but it is very hard, unless of course you have the right technicks. And for Deus' sake, go get some license points to get that Zodiac Spear up and running. The license is located in the THIRD slot at the bottom right of the lower license board. It goes from top to bottom: Slot 1: SWORDS 7 (80 LP) -Stoneblade -Durandal Slot 2: EXCALIBUR (160 LP) -Excalibur Slot 3: ZODIAC SPEAR (235 LP) -Zodiac Spear Slot 4: MASAMUNE (155 LP) -Masamune Slot 5: TOURNESOL (225 LP) -Tournesol DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!! You do have a lot of LP's available, and "it only" takes 13,738 LP's to complete the entire license board, not counting the quickenings and espers which are divided into all characters depending to who you give the esper to, I say go for the Zodiac Spear, remember, the lower license board, to the bottom right, the last vertical line has five slots, those are the ones I mentioned on my last post.
The Masamune katana can be obtained after defeating Gilgamesh, that's the reward my friend! This post has been edited by SaffireWeapon on 18th December 2006 23:22 -------------------- PS3 tag: TipoDLuffy "...quite possibly the greatest game ever made" |

It's certainly possible at that level(I'm level 62 and I've taken out Leamonde Entites and Diakon Entites). They use a lot of powerful magic, so you want to use Shell on your characters before fighting them.

Zodiark and any other Espers you haven't gotten. Then, from there, it's pretty much just hunts and collecting loot to make your ultimate weapons from Entites and such.
