I was watching a video of the Gilgamesh battle in Final Fantasy 12, and I saw him pull out a gold sword with a wavy blade. Does anyone know what this sword is? I think it's from FF9, because Gilgmesh first pulled out Cloud's buster sword from FF7, and then Squall's gunblade from FF8.

That sword doesn't look like any FF9 swords unless if it was a dark, blueish-silver I'd say it was Steiner's Rune Sword, otherwise I think it could be one of Tidus' or Auron's swords from X.

It wasn't from X, it may have been one of Steiner's higher level swords in IX.

I saw a Gunblade and Buster Sword, and I don't know what the third one is. It looks a bit like the FFIX version of the Ragnarok or Save the Queen, but it could also be Cecil's Legend from FFIV (just guessing, as it's a famous sword) or the FFVI Illumina (the sprite kinda looked like that).
Whatever it is, that does sound like a nice remix of Clash on the Big Bridge. But isn't Big Bridge a rock theme? -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that what the Save The Queen from FFIX looked like? couldn't be the Ragnarok fro IX, it wasn't curvy so much as it was ridged.
other than that, i'd say it looks like the Soul Reaver from Legacy of Kain. lol. EDIT: that one that looks like gunblade, i dont think it is. it actually looks like Zidane's dagger. if you notice, Zidane's secondary dagger never changes. that secondary one Zidane always carries looks exactly like that blade Gilgamesh pulls out. ^I honestly hope to GOD it's a dagger and not a Gunblade. But it's probably a gunblade because Squall actually has a large fanbase and Zidane doesn't (his main fans are people like me). -CSM

It's definitely not Save the Queen -- Gilgamesh's weapon is none of the swords from FF9 at all.
But yeah, I think the second blade Gilgamesh pulls out is Zidane's second dagger, the one that doesn't change. Squall's gunblade has a revolver near the hilt; the one Gilly pulls out doesn't have that, so it can't be the Gunblade. ...you know how long I've been scouring around trying to find the drawing of that second dagger?? It's in the Art of FF9 book, which I don't have with me... otherwise I would so check! XD But looking at the game shots, I think it is. |

Well it's definitely not an FFX weapon either, so it MUST be from one of the earlier games. -CSM

a dagger is too long to be used as a sword? well, why is the Buster Sword so short in that video?

It's always possible that Weiss' weapon was designed after Zidane's dagger, y'know...

that's true but it looks exactly like Weiss's....ah well. I dont really know why buster sword was so short, i mean, they kinda had to make it smaller i guess as its a broadsword used as a shortsword and...well....that'd be very impractical....o well...it'd make sense to make it Zidanes, but then who's sword is the third? two swords from the same game?? hmm...

According to Wikipedia, the sword is the Sword of Kings from Dragon Quest I-III (also known as Loto's Sword or the Sword of Erdrick).

thats one of them, but the sun type sword right?
i was looking through my strategy guide that has all the weaps in it and i saw it Sun in the hilt. Curvy golden blade. and it said turnesol, though i have heard there was a replica of the king sword....hmm...i'll look into this\ Edit ok i found it in a secret oddities section its neither- theres the (i have no idea what order this is in) A replica of the Orichalcum dagger/short sword Excalibur Replica- moon crest in the hilt from FFV Excalibur XII- this was based on the FFV design but with a sun in the hilt Steel Cutter Replica- replica of Odins sword Buster Sword Gunblade Replica Brotherhood Replica Legendary sword- legendary sword from DQ I-III hmm...i need to get my eyes checked....cant see anything thats being used. ah well i was wrong. i need to find these sword in their respective games again. i think the Turnesol was based on the Excalibu XII thing. maybe Edit the first he pulls out is the Buster sword, then Orichalcum, then Excalibur XII This post has been edited by dont chocobos rule? on 11th November 2006 17:14 -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

The kanji on the Buster Sword is supposed to mean "fake" or something along those lines. The sword with the sun on it is the Tournesol and I hear that the Orichalcum from Final Fantasy IX is one of the weapons, but I don't remember what it looks like.

I know for sure that Deathbringer/Hades' Sword(Dark Knight Cecil's best sword) makes an appearance as the sword with the skull on it.

There's actually an ongoing debate on the Final Fantasy Wiki over what that sword is. There is not a clear difference betwee Paine's sword and "Deathbringer", but you can tell them apart. Paine's sword appears more metallic, shiner in a sense, while the "Deathbringer" appears more cryptic and earthy. As far as Zantetsuken, I don't believe there's a specified model for it; it appears to change in every Final Fantasy. From what I've seen, it has never really appeared very flashy or outstanding to me.

Yeah, but because the team developing this is actually smart, it's more likely that it's Cecil's sword than Paine's, considering FFX-2 is almost universally hated and FFIV is almost universally loved. -CSM
