I know how to beat him, I know what magic he casts, his stats, etc. Does anybody know a good way to help my people survive him until his MP is null in a Thief SCC? Leveling up is killing me..

Hmm, I've never tried a Thief before, it must be hard. I'd say battle so you have a lot of Gil and then buy TONS of Potions and use them every turn...I'm not the best advice giver, as you can see...

Yeah, I do that kind of stuff.. I'm not much of a buying person because I'm always stealing Hi-Potions from Poltergeist at the Steamship.
Naw that's ok atleast you tried.. And yup, pretty hard. Even Ifrit and LiquidFlame is a bitch.. I had to make Liquid Flame go out of MP ![]() |

Hahaha. Thief. I hate to say it, but at this point, your only option is to level up. Your options are painfully limited at this point in the game, so you can't really get fancy with the equipment deal. So, yea, your best bet is to level up.
That, or do what RuneLancer mentioned in the ROM Hacking Thread to change his HP to like 20. Then he'd be easy enough. But that's cheating, and there's no dignity in cheating in a SCC. Just gut it out and level up till you can beat him. -------------------- Is PJ |

Well I recomment the X-Magic ability, hit Byblos two times Fire 2, his gonna be hurting after that. You can aslo Poison him, that helps some!
The trick is leveling up buddy! -------------------- PS3 tag: TipoDLuffy "...quite possibly the greatest game ever made" |

That would be a fantastic idea, except that the point of a SCC is that you can't change class. Last time I checked, Thief can't learn X-Magic, so unfortunately, that strategy is inapplicable here.
Honestly, I can't see any other option than leveling up like mad, but I already said that. -------------------- Is PJ |

Single Class Challenge.
NeoEx-Death is currently working on a SCC using only the Thief character class. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I use Mastodon, where I am @[email protected] ( https://sakurajima.moe/@glennmagusharvey ) |

Oh, gotcha. SCC means "Single Class Challenge". It has also been known as "Striaght Character Challenge", but I think it means the same thing. Basically, you pick one job and you make all four characters that job for the entire game, without changing.

WHOA!! That's some challenge. I prefer doing it without any jobs at all, can it be done that way?

Quote WHOA!! That's some challenge. I prefer doing it without any jobs at all, can it be done that way? Talk about it here.. http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...?showtopic=7052 I tried doing a no-job game, but it was too hard to kill Archeoavis even though Bartz, and the others are above the 30's.. So I just used jobs eversince.. Been waistin' my time to level up.. And by the way, I ALMOST beat Byblos with my thieves.. What I did was give Bartz the Full Moon, back row, LV22, Green Beret, Stealth Robe, and Thief Gauntlet to attack Byblos for 200 Damage without Armor on.. My characters had the Mage Masher I stole from the sorcerers at the Karnak Castle trial and I put them front (cuz they fight better like that, yes..) I had 50 Hi-Potions and 20 Elixirs stolen from Poltergeist and the Shield-looking monster at the library, and the elixirs from the gigas at Karnak castle trial and Zuu.. It's fun to steal, by the way.. And they were above their LV 18's.. What I tried to do was beat the hell out Byblos, heal my character's HPs when they fall below 300 with Hi-Potions and Elixirs (this one item only if I lose Hi-Potions that is!) and keep beating the hell out of him after you trigger his armor move for attacking him fiirst, until he casts Wind Slash, which hurts 245 damage.. I knew I almost beat him because I already understand he keeps casting Drain to take away 200-300 HP before death.. That's what annoyed me.. Yeah, I'll go leveling up to LV 30 atleast.. Looks like I gotta head my ass back to Steamship and keep bitching up Bartz with 700 EXP for ONE BATTLE ALONE. It's so hard to try to make Byblos run out of MP.. SIGH.. a 1000 MP monster using 3 MP attacks is gonna be impossible. But darn, the SCC is still fun ![]() |

what a challenging scc, i cant wait to hear about how your battle with neo x-death is going to go
and all this leveling up reminds me of my first time going through ffv, Possible spoilers: highlight to view i think i had to level up to like 33 because it had never ocured to me that i could use level 5 death the battle with the cannons on the floating city but of course since youre doing a thief scc that still isn't an option, well at least thieves are fast -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

That's why I love thieves, of course.. ![]() Yet, I haven't really thought much about Neo Ex-Death.. I'm afraid of the Grand Cross and Almagest move because since I can't equip ribbon (Which reduces the good chance of being affected by abnormal status effects), I'd have to equip either Angel ring or Wall Ring when I get to him.. Angel Ring to prevent Zombie, and Wall Ring to reflect magic.. By the way, I've leveled up Bartz to LV 35, Reina and the others above LV 24 and I'm right about to challenge that Byblos.. Things are about to get spicy in here. Edit Crap! I lost to that bastard again.. And all because of his Drain attack. Currently Bartz does 120 damage without being reduced power when Byblos has armor on.. I think LV 40-45 would suit the challenge or so (Just as long as the people can do more than 300 damage with armor on Byblos.).. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 21st September 2005 08:40 |

Byblos could be arguably the most difficult boss in the game, due to the lack of equipment and such that you have available at that time. I would think that from then on (excluding maybe Sol Cannon and possibly Atomos), it should be smooth sailing.
Oh, and please don't double post. It's against the rules, but I'm sure you already knew that. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

Ahh! I finally beat Byblos with LUCK! He kept missing Drain and the only character improvement was just leveling Bartz up 2x. I've gotten far, and I have beaten the crap outta Adamantoise, that monster at the airship (both were beaten with only bartz using hi-potions and LUCK), the rockets (This fightwas pretty interesting. I made Faris, Reina, and Galuf into unarmed thieves and put them in the back row to remove confusion from Bartz. Nice strategy, eh?) and Sol Cannon (I've killed his two parts to prevent status changes, but man, is he a bitch!? O.O luckily I beat him.).
Now, I have problems with Archeoavis. My characters are very weak.. I believe that this battle is 5x harder than Byblos as according to the high physical defense in Archeoavis (Oh crap.) Help, someone? |

Oh man. I'm playing through my first SCC as a Knight, and I remember how much of a pain in the butt Byblos was. I beat him with luck (and leveling), and I can imagine how hard he must be as a Thief.
Now I'm stuck on Final X-death, who's 4 forms, and 4 attacks, are the bane of my existance. Time to sit around and level for hours and hours.. Bleh. Good luck on him when you get to him. -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

I already know that Byblos can be very weak against Ifrit, yes. But this topic is to mainly talk about my THIEF ONLY battle with Byblos. Darn, I'll be able to summon monsters in the third world when I collect the Magic Lamp =P |
