We had a thread with a whole discussion of it's origin and what they are etc, but I believe it was closed or something. (Plus it was on the old board, right?)

I got one of the hairs from a moogle and ran it throgh a DNA scanner. I came up with some interesting results.
It has genes from hippopotomous, the extinct Dodo bird, an orangutan. ![]() But really I think it's a moogle...end story. -------------------- At times one remains faithful to a cause only because its opponents do not cease to be insipid. Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900) |

Uh, yeah. Okay. Content...let's go content! Actually, I've heard rumors that moogles were first featured in a manga done by whoever does Tenchi Muyo, and they're not a Final Fantasy creation at all. I don't believe it for a minute, but has anyone else heard this, or can anyone substantiate/refute this theory regarding the origin of moogles? -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Quote (Dark Paladin @ 10th August 2003 17:56) Moogles are "Mogli" in the Japanese versions, and it is supposed to be a combination of the Japanese words for "mole" and "bat". That's probably the best answer we're going to come up with. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I really think you're getting the best answer from DP on this one, though it's odd that they look nothing like moles. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Quote (Rangers51 @ 26th September 2003 14:43) though it's odd that they look nothing like moles. I think it was an evolutionary thing. (If I remember correctly) As I mentioned, in FFII there were moles in the game. The way they were made was a humanoid-like mole, and with the technology of the time, they looked even less realistic. When making the moogle, it looks like they based it on this off-mole design, and had a low-tech moogle. When 16 bits, and eventually polygons, came, instead of making the moogles like their origin, it seems they based its looks off of the original models (I think that's kind of a good thing, because I don't like it in sequels when you have a species that looks nothing like it did in the original). -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

My goodness, this is still going on. To me moogles are just the cute white things in FF, but I will support RoyalKnight's theory that humans are descended from moogles, just to mock all of the people who say "You can't say we come from apes. We could have come from something related to the apes!" Well if you're so apprehensive about having monkey-parents, then how about moogles? Take that!
![]() Maybe we should see if square has a defintion, and if so, we can frolick and rejoice that we know what our beloved little white things are. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

I don't know how this thread got as long as it did, but let's face it... Moogles are merely a fantasy created by the makers of the Final Fantasy series. You find something "cute" or "love-able" that gives the game an attraction not just to people of all ages, but as a trademark to the series, and it becomes "house-hold"..
Oh, and I'm sorry I'll quit... I'd probably let you all strangle me for the "bunny ears".. Dangit, I'm doin' it again.. |
