I really like the series, i think all of them are exellent. I am currently playing DQ9 Sentinels of the starry sky- on the ds, and i am enjoying it, it just annoys me that none of your characters that you are playing as, not even yourself, get any dialouge whatsoever.

Tell me what games in the series you have played and what you thought!

There will always be a soft spot in me for the first Dragon Quest game. It's just the perfect expression of the JRPG in one neat little package. I'd say it even trumps the first Final Fantasy game, but then I'd be mobbed by legions of haters jumping on my case.

So I'll just say it's the male-type to FF's female-type, and hope that doesn't provoke anyone.

Here's a video of some Dragon Quest music, played by yours truly. Merry Christmas!

I haven't posted here in forever.

Anyway, I bought the fifth DQ game for the DS back when it came out at the recommendation of a friend and I was completely blown away by the storytelling; how much we feel for the hero as he goes through hell despite him being a silent protagonist (unlike most incarnations of Link, for example), how much depth the party chat function gives the characters etc. It made me realize that a story doesn't have to be complex to be good if it's told in an effective way.

I have played a few of the other games too - I, III, IV, VI, VIII and IX - but DQV is my favorite.
