i found this on gamewinners.com

Glitch: Psycho Cyan (Final Fantasy 6):
At the start of battle, have Cyan perform the "Retort" SwordTech (or SwdTech 2), then have another party member cast the "Imp" spell on him. Next, kill Cyan by attacking him with a physical attack in one blow or several magic attacks. This is to not trigger Retort and cancel the process. After he is wounded, revive him with a Life spell or Fenix Down. After any character/enemy attacks, Cyan should automatically and continuously attack all enemies uninterrupted until they are all dead. Use this process to instantly defeat Bosses and tough enemies, including Kefka.
Information in this section was contributed by WindWaker.

can anyone confirm or denyh this?

Confirmed. It is also known as the Psycho Cyan glitch. It is a fairly well-known glitch, but not nearly to the extent as Wind God Gau and Vanish/Doom. Here it is, in full detail, according to Master ZED:

Quote (t3h Master ZED)
Retort counters any physical attack -

Simply use Retort, then die before Cyan/Gogo gets hit by a physical attack.
Now revive whoever used Retort, and they will counter any physical attack, not
just those that hit them.

Retort lasts forever, but only uses a physical strike -

Use Retort, now hit the user with Imp before he gets hit with a physical
attack.  Now the Imp will only counterattack with physical attacks, but Retort
will never come off.

Infinite Fight combo, a.k.a. the Psycho Cyan bug -

Combine the two glitches above by killing and reviving Cyan or Gogo while
Retort is in effect, then either before or after they die and return, turn them
into an Imp.  The next time a physical attack that can be countered by Retort
is used, Cyan/Gogo will go "berserk" and constantly attack the enemy with
regular physical strikes in an endless combo.  This is due to the fact that
they are counterattacking their own attack, and that with Imp status, Retort
status is never cleared.  This can only be stopped by either a) winning the
battle, running away, or c) let a status ailment on Cyan/Gogo eventually
kill them.  Choice c only works if they are given the ailment beforehand,
since obviously you're not going to be able to give one to them during the
onslaught without hacking.

That's basically when you give Gau the Merit Award and Tempest sword and have him use the StrayCat rage. This rage has two possible attacks: CatScratch and the normal attack. The former is a physical attack that does 4x the normal attack damage.

However, the Tempest sword has the additional chance of casting that one multi-target wind attack...Gale Cut? Idk, some wind magic attack. Basically, when you use CatScratch and the Tempest uses that spell, it becomes 4x as powerful, enabling Gau to do mass amounts of damage early-on.

I believe this was covered mutliple times. Search function might've helped.

Wind God Gau -

A potentially brutal bug with its roots in the handling of enemy Specials in
the Fight command's code, which is called up whenever an enemy Special or a
normal physical strike (such as Rage's normal attacks) is used, not just when
the Fight command itself is selected.  Wind God Gau, at its core, is the
combination of a weapon-cast spell with an enemy Special, which can only be
done normally with the Rage command.  When this happens, the Special modifies
not only the normal strike, but the spell as well, which can either cause the
spell to deal only an ailment and no damage or deal much greater damage than
normal.  The most popular use for the bug is the combination of Tempest and
Stray Cat Rage.  CatScratch is the most powerful physical Rage because of its
4X damage multiplier, and given that Tempest's Wind Slash hits all enemies, the
combination of the two allows CatScratch to do Magical damage to the entire
opposition, the high multiplier making Wind Slash do damage equivilent to
Crusader's Purifier attack (and in turn, giving this famous bug its well-
deserved name).  The bug is rather limited in use in FF3us, but in FF6j and
FF6 PS, the Equip Anything and Equip any weapon bugs (see them under 5. Version
specific, check section 10 for subsection listings) not only allow you to use
such combinations in the WOB, but also allow such ideas as Genji Glove+Offering
+Tempest x2, which gives rise to a possible 8 CatScratch Wind Slashes in one
turn.  Other weapons, such as Pearl Rod, also work, but only Tempest is paid
any attention usually because of Wind Slash's unique multi-target capability
and compatibility with Offering.

Oh, and the other Rages usually associated with this are Areneid/Primordite, as Numb and Numblade turn Wind Slash into an unblockable multi-target Stop spell (unblockable as in the only things that can defend against it are Stop immunity and just not being targetable, like when using Jump), something that doesn't exist normally in the game (Stunner is close, but it won't always apply Stop).

This is very interesting. Silly programmers...

Where can you first obtain the Merit Award and Tempest sword?
