I beat this game about a year ago, and now I've felt like there isn't much left to "do" in terms of sidequests. I basically did what I had to do in order to get all the characters (except for Umaro, because I didn't have Mog in my party), and did everything that's typically done in the main quest of the game.
This is my favourite game of all time, but I don't really know what there is to do after Kefka, besides the Coliseum. Are there any other extras I can go back and play with, or will I have to wait for the GBA version? -------------------- If something were to happen to me, all the world's women would grieve! - Edgar Nothing beats the music of thousands of voices screaming in unison! - Kefka Lover of all FFs, especially IV, VI, VII, IX, and X. Well, if you want to deck out everyone with uber-equipment, do stat-raising, and max out levels, then I guess you could do that. And get great Coliseum items. Have everyone learn every spell. (Except like Gogo and Umaro.) Although this all isn't necessary. Oh! Have you gotten every Esper? I guess you could do that. (Although you don't really need Ragnarok.) Meh.

Well, if you have all fourteen characters and have followed CoN's walkthrough, then you're basically done with all of the basic extras. When I replay the game I sometimes forget Cyan's dream sequence, Ebot's Rock, and the Ancient Castle, maybe you did too? Just check the walkthrough.

You could always get started on ROM hacking.
![]() Barring that, did you max out everyone's spells? Gau's rages? Strago's Lores? Mog's Dances? Maxed out on levels and stats? Or maybe you're one of the smarter ones and feel a waste of time such as this isn't fun? If that's the case, try a challenge. Low-level games (LLGs) and single character challenges (SCCs) are great fun. Or try a NEG (no Exp game), or worse. Beating the game without magic, or with your initial equipment, or even without equipment, is bound to keep you busy for a while. I may be mistaken, but nobody has actually managed to complete an SCC with Umaro. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

He managed to get VERY far (ie, final kefka) but it was often by sheer luck, and he never made it further than that. Why? Sheer bad luck, again. Granted, the chances are so astronomically slim that it might as well BE impossible, and IS impossible for all intent and purpose. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Hmm, how exactly would you do an Umaro SCC?
Or, better yet, an SCC in general? What is confusing me is if the game doesn't give you that character at that time, then you're not able to use him (obviously), so do you do an SCC with another character in the meantime? And when you can get that character, are you forced to get that character at that point without doing anything else? Or must you go through possibly a LLG until you arrive at the point where you can use that character - then and only then - level up accordingly? ![]() -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. The "rules" for an SCC are to use that character exclusively whenever possible as soon as you can get them. For the other parts of the game, when you're forced to use another character, you have to spend as little time using them as possible. If other characters are forced on your party, kill them. As much as I hate to mention it as a reference, GameFAQs has FAQs on the subject.
Alternatively, you could use a game genie to force the character on your party, so long as you switch it off for events to avoid bugging up the game. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

If you haven't seen Shadow's 7 dream sequences, there's that. Just start sleeping at random inns with Shadow in your party.

Update on the Umaro SCC: some other guy made it to the very end, defeating Kefka. I forgot what Relics he used, though.

By the way, a forum member here from a while ago made his own FFVI Expert Versions 1, 2, and 3 (each an improvement on the prevoius).
That may offer you a new experience in the same setting. They're the same game with revised script and data, and difficulty ramped up. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. There are actually quite a few patches on this site, and on Master ZED's page.
