For now, the next destination is unknown, but the only place to go from the monastery is Dorter, so that's clearly where we're heading. There, you'll be stopped by a stranger who tells Ramza to bring the Scriptures to Riovanes Castle if he wants to see Alma again. Ramza has no choice but to follow the new path that opens up towards the castle and to fight his way there.

Grogh Heights

By now, Ramza knows that the rank-and-file of either of the two Lions are not really his enemy, and therefore this fight is caused by an unfortunate misunderstanding.

Regardless, this battle is a relief from the recent rash of more difficult battles, because the enemies are relatively weak and in entry-level jobs. There's no particular order you need to worry about with this battle except perhaps taking out the Chemists first so they don't heal the other party members. Even then it doesn't matter because you'll probably be taking out the enemy party so fast that the Chemists won't have time to heal them all. They do have the ability to use Phoenix Down and/or Elixir, though, so they can drag the battle out some if you let them.

When the battle ends, Orran and a group of soldiers under his command will appear. Orran thanks Ramza for defeating the enemies because he was after them himself - he is serving his liege now as a hunter of deserting soldiers.

Ramza worries that Orran is after him, instead, now that he's been branded a heretic, but Orran decides to ignore that fact, explaining that Ramza is not part of the mission (and clearly leaving other thoughts unsaid). Orran, in parting, lets Ramza know that the two of them are not enemies and then takes off with his troops, leaving Ramza with more to consider about the future of his own personal quest and the war around him.
