Monastery Vaults: Third Level

The youngest of the Knights Templar, Isilud, has been sent here to look for the Auracite, so obviously he's the prime target in this battle. Ignore all the other characters, even the Summoner, provided you can take care of Isilud before the Summoner can take care of you.

Getting Isilud down to critical HP will end the battle, but it's not quite as straightforward as that. Isilud can do jump attacks like the Dragoon and leave the battlefield, so it's important that you check Active Time before launching any attack that is not instant. If you have someone that can cast Holy quickly enough, hit Isilud with it because it will do massive damage. Aside from that, bring your own Summoner to attack Isilud and even heal your own characters if necessary. Most of the enemies here have ranged attacks, so you need to either have your own ranged attacks ready faster, or be ready to close the gap immediately.

Dragoons of your own work very well in this battle because of their two-square range, but the old standbys, Knights, Monks, and Ninjas, work just as well. Characters with good Move stats are good to quickly cross the map towards the enemy, and also to retreat since the avenues of travel are narrow.

The guns that have served so well recently, if you've been collecting them, are all but useless in this battle due to the presence of the book stacks. If you want to use them, you'll need to get your gun-toting characters on top of the stacks and relatively close to the enemy. This works best if you leave these characters towards the back of your party setup, as they can more easily climb up from there and attack the enemy rear guard. This will often lure Isilud towards those characters, though, so be careful - as characters who can equip guns innately tend to not be able to take much damage.

Once Isilud is down, he'll teleport out of the battlefield and back upstairs to Wiegraf, who's waiting where you first found Simon.

Consider saving your game in another slot, as this sequence of battles continues.
