Golgollada Gallows is a trap, and it puts just five of your units against eight enemies. There's a good chance this battle will take you a few tries to get correct, but one of the main things to remember is that you need someone as a Chemist in this battle to throw Hi-Potions at your party members. More people that can use Phoenix Downs will also be crucial. Auto-Potion on as many character as you can manage will be helpful too, especially if you've cleaned out standard Potions from your inventory (since Auto-Potion uses the lowest-level potion items first). Keep to the low side of the battlefield for a while to separate the enemy as long as possible.

The earlier you can take out Gaffgarion, the better, because he'll keep healing himself along the way. You'll have to get lucky, but if Mustadio can hit him with an Arm Shot right off the bat, Gaffgarion will be virtually useless until it wears off. Don't sacrifice his ability to do damage if the chances of landing Arm Shot don't look good enough for you, though, as the gun's range can help pick away at the oncoming forces better than most options you have now. The upside is that Gaffgarion can only hit one of your characters at a time, so if an opportunity opens up where you can drop your focus on him and instead knock out a couple standard enemies, it's worth a try.

Gaffgarion will escape when critical, but the rest of the enemies will remain. Bring along a Time Mage with Hasteja if you can, or standard Haste if not. If it has to be a secondary ability for one of your units, that's fine too, as you might need to triage your turns early on to keep everyone alive and may not be able to afford sticking a character in a physically weak job like that.

Agrias should be as tanked up as you can make her, as she has area-of-effect ranged attacks that can help to pick away at Gaffgarion and the standard enemies simultaneously. In a similar vein, if you have a Summoner, cast a spell that can hit many of the enemies in one blast. Otherwise, there's not much you can do to prepare except to level up at Balias Swale and get supporting abilities and new jobs.

After the battle, the path to Lionel opens back up and you're ready to go rescue the Princess. You might have lost some equipment to Knight attacks, so don't forget to stop and restock on everything before proceeding.

In War of the Lions, you'll also get a cutscene in which Wiegraf will mourn his sister's loss at the place where she fell. He will be approached by a knight, unknown to us, with an offer of recruitment.
