You're in the clear to make it to Lionel Castle. There, the party meets Delacroix, who explains more about the the legend surrounding the holy stones. You also get a chance to hear more about Mustadio's predicament. A holy stone was found in his city, and a company called Baert Company is after it. However, Mustadio's father gave it to Mustadio and told him to run away and find the Cardinal. Delacroix assures Mustadio that he will send men to stop Baert Company, which has tons of underhanded deals. Mustadio asks Ramza if he can go back to Goug with him, and Agrias and Ovelia decide to stay in Lionel for the time being.

Finally, a battle with four open character slots, thanks to Agrias staying behind. Use this additional slot to your advantage and bring along someone with fire spells because all the enemies in this battle are weak to fire. At the same time, try to get Seal Evil for Mustadio (this may not be realistic, as you don't have much time to build his JP) because if successful, it will kill undead enemies in one hit, which is amazing in this battle.

There's not much strategy to this battle except to stay out of the water/swamp areas, which can inflict poison status on anyone who ends their turn in one. Items work really well in this battle because healing items will do damage to undead, so a ItemHi-Potion will actually do 70 damage instead of healing 70 HP, and ItemPhoenix Down, if you can afford to blow them here, will kill an undead enemy outright.

Another note worth remembering about battles against the undead, though, since we haven't seen many yet: while they can be harmed by healing items and magic, they also have the chance to resurrect after their death timer counts down to zero. There's no way to predict this ahead of time, so it's best to defeat all of the enemies at around the same time when possible unless you're prepared for this chance. Don't kill one and run off completely away and then have to run back across the map if they resurrect. You can avoid this by letting the enemy forces come to you instead of spreading your battle group across the map in pursuit.

Also, to expound further about swamp battles themselves while we're here; putting one of your characters into the water in a swamp environment gives them a chance at being poisoned by the fetid water. This poison status is the same as poison inflicted by magical means (or traps, if you've seen one of those by now) - each turn will drain the character of HP and can be healed by an ItemAntidote or magic. Characters who equip accessories that bestow poison immunity will also be immune from swamp poison. Additionally on this map, some tiles of swamp have depth level 2, which may be the first time you've encountered this terrain - at this point of the game you likely don't have any abilities or accessories to deal with this, so characters who are in those deep tiles will be unable to act until they move out of that tile to land or a shallower spot.

This is a good time to save your progress in a second slot. Once you proceed to the next area, you will be locked into a string of battles, and you will have no way to back out should you find yourself not powerful enough to proceed.

Throughout the walkthrough we'll commonly refer to a second slot for saving. Given that you likely have a limited number of save slots available, this doesn't necessarily mean you need to save in a new slot each time, just two slots total: one for your regular game, and one for saving inside of places where battles are consecutive. This allows you to continue on while not having to worry about getting stuck in a place where you might have to roll back hours of play. Doing that here for the first time will give you added flexibility.
