Final Fantasy V Data Upgrade

Caves of Narshe Site News
For all those who have complained about our Final Fantasy V data in the past, don't worry, we just finished upgrading a ton of it! And for those of you (roughly 93%) who have never been into that section, well, now you have a reason to go.

We've done a fresh dump of enemy data from the game and input it into our data tables, which freed us up to do a lot of new stuff. For one, we have doubled the details we will give you for each enemy, including various strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and win/steal data. That allowed us to upgrade some other sections too - the magic page now will show you where to buy, win, or steal or learn certain spells, and weapons, armor, and items all crossreference the shop and enemy data tables to pull the same data.

As always, we won't guarantee that some little irritants didn't slip through, but we did a ton of QA work here that should have caught the bulk of it. This project took us several months of starts and stops, and I had a ton of help. Thanks a lot to all of the following:

  • Silverlance for generating the data dumps;

  • Caesar and Djibriel for analysing, proofreading, and translating the dumps as needed, and checking the input to our tables;

  • MogMaster and Karasuman for the help in additional manual data entry after the first batch upload;

  • And, finally, Del S for doing more data entry, testing, fact checking, and general raw effort than you can throw a Fire Skill at.

Eleven New Fanarts Added to Gallery

Caves of Narshe Site News
In another one of our fun, intermittent fanart updates, we've got eleven new pieces available to vote today. They're all from Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy VII this time around, and Kappa, Mimic and I have them all put together for you on the new fanart page.

Here are your artists this time around:

Some of these artists you'll recognize right away if you're a CoN regular, but we'd really like to thank Terra_tME, Skangl, and InkTank for sharing with us for the first time!

Long-Awaited (?) Fanfic Update

Caves of Narshe Site News
Today, we have a small update in the fanfiction side of things for your reading pleasure so long as you don't read the ones by Del. smile.gif

The first fic to be placed into the Final Fantasy 1 section, from Del S, and hopefully not going to be too lonely for very long.

Second and third up, in the Final Fantasy 6 section are two more from Del, Mog Soldiers, a slightly nutty and violent dark comedy with... weremoogles?! Also, an updated version of one of his eariler fics, Unavanged Dead. That particular fic won the 2004 fanfic competition, and this updated version expands the story.

In Final Fantasy Tactics is an offering from Kilakandra DiMenia, an in-game fiction from the point of view of Ramza as he battles not only the enemy, but his own inner thoughts.

Finally, in the Final Fantasy 7 is another from Del, this time, an alternate chain of events detailing a completely different kind of attack on Sector 7 from the one that occurred in-game.

Please enjoy these, and feel free to comment upon them here.

New Server Strikes Again

Caves of Narshe Site News
Like sequels to comic book-based movies, the new server rotation at CoN never seems to end. Maybe if we were turning a profit, we'd get there. But anyway, if you're seeing this, it means the new server is working for you. There may still be some oddness - we had some serious issues in getting the site databases in line with this move.

But if you're reading this at all, you're better off than you were before. The forums are now open. Please come back. We missed you.

Three Newsposters Added to CoN Team

Caves of Narshe Site News
If you frequent the news forum or the front page of the site, you no doubt noticed our call for newsposters to help Silverfork with her duties of, well, posting news. We had a great response with a surprising number of auditions, and thank you to all who sent us an email to apply. Having read through them, we offered spots to three of your fellow CoN members; I'm happy to say that all three gladly accepted our offer!

So, please give your congratulations to our three new newsposters, Laszlow, Karasuman, and Zero_Hawk. They all sent in great auditions and you can look forward to getting good news from them for some time to come. We're in the process of getting them settled in now, so be ready to read!

Media Update: Fanart and Avatars

Caves of Narshe Site News
Since I've been away from a PC for almost twenty-four hours now, I assume that most of you have already seen all this. I know a lot of you have seen the new avatars, as I myself and several of you have already taken advantage of them.

Thanks to Teta, we now have a new large gallery of stylized FFT portrait avatars - as stated, my current Ramza comes directly from them. Thanks a lot, Teta, for making them for us! Additionally, I decided to add just a couple more FF6 avatars from the PSX port, mostly of Squall being abused and Onion Kid looking chubby and goofy.

And, thanks to our new fanart team (this time, it was Mimic and Kappa the Imp), we've got a big chunk of new fanart too. This update features art from Kame, Galsic, Rujuken, Ronin, Bum's Rush, BratKitty, Silverfork, and Perigryn, and it includes some new stuff from every single game we cover! Thanks a lot to all for the submissions and work.
