Final Fantasy V Data Upgrade

Caves of Narshe Site News
For all those who have complained about our Final Fantasy V data in the past, don't worry, we just finished upgrading a ton of it! And for those of you (roughly 93%) who have never been into that section, well, now you have a reason to go.

We've done a fresh dump of enemy data from the game and input it into our data tables, which freed us up to do a lot of new stuff. For one, we have doubled the details we will give you for each enemy, including various strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and win/steal data. That allowed us to upgrade some other sections too - the magic page now will show you where to buy, win, or steal or learn certain spells, and weapons, armor, and items all crossreference the shop and enemy data tables to pull the same data.

As always, we won't guarantee that some little irritants didn't slip through, but we did a ton of QA work here that should have caught the bulk of it. This project took us several months of starts and stops, and I had a ton of help. Thanks a lot to all of the following:

  • Silverlance for generating the data dumps;

  • Caesar and Djibriel for analysing, proofreading, and translating the dumps as needed, and checking the input to our tables;

  • MogMaster and Karasuman for the help in additional manual data entry after the first batch upload;

  • And, finally, Del S for doing more data entry, testing, fact checking, and general raw effort than you can throw a Fire Skill at.

Cloud_Strife510 Again The Caves proves to everyone that it is the best Site on the web. The thouroughness of The Caves is the reason I am in these forums. A big thank you to everyone who worked on updating the FFV section.

footbigmike Sweet. I know how much bugging you've been receiving for that.

After about, ooh, say, 2 months of relaxation? I dunno.... what are you going to move onto next? Your workload never falters, and if you're upgrading the FF4 section next, i'd be happy to help.

Once again, good job! thumbup.gif

Zeromus_X Most excellent.

Quad I know you don't particularly like the rumors pages, but if you decide to make one for FF7 I'd be more than happy to help.

Silverlance To everyone (else) who was involved in this, nice work! smile.gif CoN has GameFAQs beat hands down when it comes to FF, and the completedness of the data on the site just keeps growing.
Del SComment 6: 2006-07-07 22:22
Del S It's all shiney and new, and has a sillylarge amount of information now where before there was virtually an empty pasture...

A more accurate descirption of what I did would be: data typos, testing R51's patience, "fact" checking, and generally doing nothing at all. happy.gif

Bring on the next bits.

NeoEx-Death Great job with the updated data! I'm so happy that CoN finally stepped up to FF5 after all this time and making it the best FF5 section. All we need now are enemy ABP data, and it's fully complete. Again, terrific job you guys.

Yeah, we have access to the ABP tables but decided it wasn't worth it since each monster can be in multiple rows. But now in thinking about it I can almost see how we could integrate it into the data and make it worthwhile, so maybe I'll consider that.

Oh, and in terms of everyone offering help, I think it's fair to say that we need solid data for the GBA games right now.
SilverlanceComment 11: 2006-07-10 14:13
Silverlance Meh. Fine. I give, I give, I'll have a look at the GBA version. wink.gif I can't help but feel a nagging sense of having only half-done my job by getting the info for just one version. And I have a few days of idle-time while waiting for legal matters to clear up over my appartment, so I'll give it a shot. I hate, really hate, not doing something all the way through. smile.gif

Anyone else willing to give it a shot is 100% welcome to do so though - my experience with GBA hacking is limited and I won't be able to resort to assembly to track down info.

Which one? I could do DoS walkthroughs, or crap like that. Summer Holidays, so free time galore!

I'm technically supposed to be working on a lot of CoN stuff right now, but the "summer holidays" have turned into a 50-hours-a-week job for me. Hopefully I can finish my notes and my CoN project before August, but we'll have to see.

Dark Paladin Great news, but I can't seem to find the key for the symbols used in the Absorbs, Weakness, Blocks, and Immunities fields.
Or did leave it up to us to just hover the mouse over the image and wait for the image name to pop up?

Yes, that's how it's been done for each game in which we use those icons or similar. Sorry, but the building of legends will need to wait until the next global upgrade of code so that it will work sitewide. I'm guessing that you figured that out long before you posted about it, though. tongue.gif
