Goodbye, Nobuo Uematsu?

Square Enix
Although it's mentioned in RPGamer's news report that he may come back in the future, for the moment, Nobuo Uematsu is unfortunately leaving Square Enix.

The reason for his leaving is for greener pastures, although at the time it is not clear which pastures he feels are greener, and why. It is mentioned, however, that he has quite a busy schedule, especially with his band The Black Mages.

After working with Square Enix for 20 years, Uematsu noted that his most memorable composition is Eyes on Me, the main theme from FFVIII, and that his favourite game compositions were from FFVI, FFVII and FFVIII.

EDIT: Sometime after my posting this, RPGamer ammended their news post to say that this is a RUMOUR. So while it's possible, as of now, this piece of news has not been completely verified.

EDIT #2: It has now been confirmed that the above is true. Uematsu will be joining a company called "Smile Please" in November, and does not wish to call his leaving quitting, as that term is too extreme.

****

I was a little taken aback when I saw this piece of news, though the man has put in 20 years already with Squeenix. He did do the music for FFXII, so we'll have that at least.

GamblingCat That is unfortunate for me to hear, I really do hope he does come back, but this is sad, but at least he doing the music for FFXII .
SilverForkComment 2: 2004-10-31 03:23
SilverFork That's a shame. I can't say it surprises me though, what with him kinda winding down lately and not being the main composer for FFX, FFX-2 (I don't think he did any of its music), and FFXII, or so I've heard. Maybe he's getting a little fed up with Square Enix too.

Wonder where he'll end up...

Elessar Cripes, but he just released Black Mage cd #2.

I hope he doesn't walk away from the band.

MogMaster Personally i think it would be hot if he showed up at Mist Walker with the other golden boys. A revival of old school integrity and quality would appear like we've never seen before i think. Old school dedication to an amazing product + new school graphics and technology + Awesome music= several hundred dollars spent by me alone. I really hope he ends up there!

That's not a bad idea, cause most of the great guys have already left Square Enix, and he's one of the only original guys left. Together they all would create a real RPG again. And yes, I would buy a Mist Walker RPG.

I am not really shocked by this, because I have been expecting it for some time now. I mean, just about everyone else he's worked with left Square Enix and formed their own companies. Also, Nobuo has been composing less ans less with each new FF. He's not even the composer for FFXII anymore, he's just a producer or something like that. I would imagine that he'd be fed up and leave with all this going on.

Elena99 I just checked RPGamer's site again, and it turns out that this is a rumour, it may not be true.

ShotgunnovaComment 12: 2004-11-01 03:19
Shotgunnova I'm glad he got out of Square-Enix. Maybe he'll find fame working on other games.
EjotyComment 13: 2004-11-01 04:59
Ejoty Dewa mata Uematsu sama!

Well, I'm choosing to be as positive as possible about this by saying, "Here's a chance for Squenix to prove that they don't solely depend on lucking out with some uber talented individuals, but instead can both find some new talent and maintain their own standards." Imagine me saying all that...

As for good ol' Noby- hope the new company works out well (as if he hears me) and hooray for new games with kick-arse music!
KaneComment 14: 2004-11-01 06:31
Kane Well as long as I still get to listen to his music, good for him. If he needs to get out and do something else for whatever reason let him.
ElessarComment 15: 2004-11-01 13:35
Elessar Does anyone know what this Smile Please company is? I've never heard of it, and a google search doesn't turn up anything (even jp sites).
