Final Fantasy VII Remake Announced: Hell Generally Chilly
I don't even get to watch E3 live this year, for the first time in at least five years. I'm on the road this week, but I had to pop in for this news: Final Fantasy VII, after all the non-starts, jokes, trolls, and general stupidity, Final Fantasy VII is being remade.
The details were announced at Sony's E3 presser tonight, and as such it was made clear that one could "play it first" on Playstation 4. That of course leads one to believe that other platforms will become available; both Windows and Xbox One would likely be no-brainers.
Some kindly soul has already ripped the trailer from the stream: enjoy.

I just saw this, that's crazy! I expect CoN will get right on updating the FF7 section for whatever new material they add

Tears of joy. I am so excited for this. Edit: Short interview with Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-...ch-of-the-crazy Mentions the developers from the original game being involved and gives an idea of how long the game has been in development so far.

I still am in a state of disbelief that, after all the rumors and such, it's actually happening. "Matter of time" though it may have been, I really didn't expect it so soon. I'm glad that Nomura, Nojima, and Kitase are all involved. Additionally, I've just posted the latest news courtesy of fatman's link and a few others. I'm excited to see what will be new/different!

I do so hope this isn't another troll, even if it is confirmed.

Quote (KusanagiShiro @ 18th June 2015 04:29) I do so hope this isn't another troll, even if it is confirmed. This is definitely not a troll, although I appreciate most still remember the tech demo incident. Having said that, there is never any absolute guarantee that an announced game will actually be released. But that's unlikely to be an issue here. People need to try and be open minded for what will actually be made though, it's not going to be a carbon copy of the original with only a graphics upgrade, there will be some changes.

I'm all too happy to see the old low-poly models go, but I wonder how they'll treat the soundtrack, which is certain to be updated, too. I always thought the MIDI style used in FF7 had a certain "artificial" charm that fit the setting quite well.

I always thought the MIDI style used in FF7 had a certain "artificial" charm that fit the setting quite well. It'll certainly be interesting, with all the options now available to them, to see (or rather, hear) the instrumentation choices. We've heard rock versions from Uematsu's Black Mages as well as orchestrated versions from Distant Worlds, proving the versatility of Uematsu's compositions. There are tons of different arrangement possibilities with myriad overall aesthetics; this is one of the creative choices I'm most interested in hearing more about!
