A sequel to FFVII?

Final Fantasy VII
Although not a game, there is word of a sequel to the popular Final Fantasy 7, to come out in the year 2004.

Not many details are available as of yet, however it looks like it will be a CG movie, and have Sephiroth and Cloud (in some form, at least.)

According to Gameforms, it will be called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Personally, although I'd love to see this movie, I'm iffy about bringing Sephiroth back to life. He's dead. Cloud killed him what, four times at the end of the game? Unless it's his cells fused in someone elses body. Either way, I'm greatly looking forward to hearing more news about this.

karasuman Thanks for posting this. happy.gif

At least Sephiroth was cute?

Rangers51 Also, according to some fairly well placed sources, I have information indicating that this MIGHT be the precursor to FF7-2. If that interests you at all. I think sequels to the old games would be a pathetic, Disney-esque money grab. But I'l probably play them.

Sabin Looks like it's going to be interesting. I thought that VII was a good nominee for a sequel if any. But I agree with R51 and just think that Squaresoft is doing this for another grab at the green. I'll probably end up getting it, a game or cg movie or whatever, if it comes out nonetheless.

Dark Paladin It's amazing/disturbing what will happen when there are enough fanboys/girls.

I saw some pictures that made it look like it was going to be live action eh.gif

Elena99 Found it.

[dohtml] CG of Cloud and Sephiroth, and other bits from a magazine. Thanks to RPGamer. [/dohtml]

If you take a good look at it, it's actually CG. Like The Spirits Within.

It's definitely CG. The closeup of Cloud - you can really see the grainyness of the skin and the obviously fake hair. Square does CG almost as well as Dreamworks (not Pixar, I don't think), but the quality of that render isn't much better than closeups of Aki from TSW.

Oh blush.gif I guess I confused the graininess for a low-quality photo job, and the hair for an '80s style.
It looks so much more realistic than TSW and FFX, it's amazing. I just hope the sequel won't use graphics as a crutch the way the original did (no offense to fans, (I am one myself) it's just I get into arguements with fanboys all the time).
Overall, I think a movie as a sequel to the game is a dumb idea, but I still may check it out (when it gets to the States) for title loyalty.

Tiddles Tiddles-followers will know that I'm a big old FF7 fan, but dedicated stalkers will have noticed that I always shrug at sequel talk.

It seems daft, for this reason: FF7 sets up a lot of history which would be a lot more worthy of exploration in a prequel than some half-baked cash-in Cloud vs. Sephiroth 2: This Time It's Personal (subtitle: Random Kingdom Hearts Subplot #57?) type affair.

You could do something with things that happened after the ending, sure, but I really don't want to see Sephiroth again in the future of FF7's world. Like the plot of Chrono Cross, I feel it really cheapens the original game that you didn't actually succeed after all.

Advent means second coming. The Seventh Day Adventists were titled such because they tried to predict Christ return. And buggered it big time. So according to the title it seems Sephiroth will be ressurected.

Good point. Thinking of it that way, note that 'child' is pluralized. Perhaps MANY of the characters are somehow resurrected in this scenario.

I still think it's kinda dumb, though.
karasumanComment 13: 2003-09-26 16:47
karasuman I can't imagine an FFVII sequel involving the same characters or even remotely the same story that would be in any way appealing. FFX-2 has a story to wrap up, but FFVII had an ending. I really can't imagine a plot that could manage to involve Sephiroth, but, well, I'm not saying it's not possible. In Lunar 2: Eternal Blue,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Ghaleon is resurrected by Zophar for reasons highly involved with personal motivation, intricate plot details, etc.
, and after finishing Lunar: Silver Star Story, I never thought they could do that in a way that pleased me...but they did. So I dunno. I guess we'll see.

One thing I do know is this: I'm going to leave my boyfriend for CG Sephiroth. *drool* wub.gif

parkspapercut wow, so this is just going to be a movie (or you think that thats what it'll be)? this is a very good idea i'd say FFVII always had the most room for a sequel or a prequel and this looks amazing! so whens it due biggrin.gif

With that attitude, Square-Enix will never stop making half-baked, "we want more money!" sequels.

Just for once, we should try and actually, *gasp* boycott a Final Fantasy! (though we might want to wait for VIII-2 to come out wink.gif .)
