I am not sure if there is already a topic on this, but I looked through pages of topics and didn't see this one. Have you ever thought when you are nameing your character in FFIII/FFVI (besides the default name), which name do you give to them and why? When you name your character, the name you give them show what you think of them and what you think they are like!

What are some of the names you gave your characters (besides default names) and why? Also, is there a supporting character (like Banon, Ghost, Leo, ect.) that you wish you could give a different name to? If so, tell them here.

After I see this is a good topic and have a couple post already, I will put the names I gave my characters! Have Fun!!

I usually just name them the Japanese names. (Tina, Mash, Lock, etc.) Of course, I leave Strago the same because you can't fit 'Stragus' into the name space, and I name Cayenne 'Cyenne' for the same reason.

If I could change the event characters, I'd probably just put them in proper case, as all-caps ain't exactly aesthetically pleasing. I'd just leave the Ghost '????' since he doesn't really have a name and I always forget to get him anyway. I did name Shadow

I always use the default names now, but when I first played FF6, I gave them FF4 names. (When I first played FF4, I gave them Star Trek: TNG names.) These are the ones I remember from 1994:

Terra: Rydia (green hair)
Edgar: Kain (both use spears)
Sabin: Yang (monks)
Shadow: Edge (ninja)
Cyan: Cecil (knights)
Gau: Palom (male child)
Relm: Porom (female child)
Strago: Tellah (old mage)

Thanks. If I had to do it over, I would probably name Locke "Cecil" and Celes "Rosa." (I named them without knowing much about them.)

I almost never bother changing their names anymore. I remember way back, when I'd go to science camps or foreign exchange trips, I'd name the characters after the friends I'd make. Don't do that anymore. The only thing I do is remove the caps lock on all the character names to make them seem more natural (i.e. TERRA becomes Terra, SETZER becomes Setzer, etc.).

Zeromus_X has a clever idea though, renaming the characters to reflect the Japanese counterparts. I've gotten more into them since reading the jap translation for the FFVI story. Maybe I'll do that for FFVI Advance.

That gave me the idea to name mog after my old Cat; Stevie. Yes he was named after Stevie Wonder, because we used to wonder how he got away with being such a Tramp and then risk death by taunting Two German shepards all day, I'll admit he had exceptional reflexes for a cat. After falling off a wooden fence towards the mouths of the rapid German Shepards he dug his claws into the fece and managed to run back up. the dogs missed his tail by an inch. What a lucky cocky cat.

I usually use my friends names for alternate names for my characters. Here is a list of the ones I commonly use:

TERRA: Terra
LOCKE: Draco (That's my game name)
EDGAR: Jacob (My best friend)
SABIN: Derek or Pat (Jacob's second best friend or his cousin)
CELES: (Depends on whether or not i'm currently in a relationship, if not...) Luna (Favorite chick character from LUNAR)
CYAN: Arthur (His sense of honor kinda reminds me of King Arthur)
SHADOW: Dakota (My nephew)
GAU: Jesse (My cousin)
MOG: Bandit (One of my old cats' names)
SETZER: David (Friend from school)
STRAGO: John (Jacob's grandpa)
RELM: Amber (Jacob's little sister)
GOGO: Kevin (My stepdad)
UMARO: Devin (Friend from school)

Also, it was mentioned what characters we would like to change the names of if we could. Personally, I'd like to change some of the Espers' names. Most of them are cool, but they oughta give the player a chance to customize their names the way they want, just like in FFVIII.

My friend, for one of her games, named her entire party "Bob." Which was going fine and dandy for the entire game (and giving some pretty fun lines), until she got to the final battle, and of course, all there was, was a long list of... "Bob." XD

I tend to keep my names as they are in the game, but this last game I only kept Terra's name. The most amusing results came from naming the twins "ZOMG!" and "OMFG!" At one point, Celes runs up to Sabin, and her line was, "OMFG! You're alive!" Of course, it was 2am when I was playing it, so I'm sure that accounted for how easily that amused me, but I was giggling pretty hard.

Yup, those be them. 'Course, if I am playing the english one, I use Cyan and Strago for space reasons.

There are only a few that I give the same names to every playthrough but the others I just give a random friends' name to.

Sabin: "Jarod" or "Burt" (me)
Locke: "Matt" (my best friend)
Terra: "Clare" (my girlfriend always gets my favorite female role)

The others are just whoever I feel like naming them.

This is silly but the second time I played ff3 I was 10 years old and I gave all of my characters stupid names. Terra was toilet and Locke was a name that I'm probably not allowed to say here and so on.... Another time I named Locke 'Celes' and I named Celes 'Locke'. That was pretty humorous.

Well I like using FF3 us multi editor with the rom. So ive tweaked a few names and stats.

Ghost1: Yang(gave him full blitz and tiger fangs)
Ghost2:Cecil(An Illumiina, paladin shield, genji armor, etc, not to mention full swd techs)
Banon: I havent changed his name yet, im thinking about it
Moogles: I need a clever way to rename all of themin a similar way
General Leo: Edgar

Ff7 current game progress:Just finished the underwater reactor, on to rocket town!

I usually name myself as Edgar or Locke... I haven't played a new game in a long time though, but I'd often end up naming my friends as the other guys and my crushes as the girls, and when I load up my game 5 years later, it's ironic how I don't know any of the people I named anymore

There are only a few character names that I change when I play:

TERRA: Jenna
LOCKE: Darren
EDGAR: Edward (regal, and more visually appealing than Edgar)
SABIN: Aaron
CELES: Snowie ('spirit as white as snow', white cape.. it just seemed to fit)
GAU: Mowgli (like the kid from the Jungle Book)
RELM: Lily (an innocent-sounding name, somewhat contradictory.. lol)
MOG: Kupo

Everyone else just remained the same.. I think I'm now 'stuck' on this way of nameing my characters.. every time I start a new FF6 game if I don't use these names it just doesn't seem right..

I don't think that Edward really fits any of the FF6 characters. Maybe he could be Edgar -- they're both blond princes whose parents were murdered by empires -- but I don't think that their personalities have much in common.

I've only played through FF6 once, and I didn't chang the names so I could get used to which character was which, but if I did change them, I would have done this:

I recall when the game first came out, I was about, what, 7 or 8? I named my characters some pretty funky names...

Terra : Terry
Locke: Lock
Edgar: Charles (I dont think I spelt it correctly so it was able to fit)
Sabin: Geo15 (or something rediculous like that)
Shadow: Knight
Relm: Realm
Celes: Snow (or something to that extent)
Mog: Mo

Those are all I can remember. I also mispronounced Celes as "Cells", and thought Setzer was a woman. I was not a very wise little kid

As for now, I keep their default names, but make the rest of the letters lower case... so people aren't like "Hey, LOCKE, how are you?" I feel like everyone in the game has Caps Lock on :c
