This is one of the games that are easy to find pre-translated, but this is how you patch in general for SNES. (I don't know if this works for SNES 9x, I use ZSNES which has auto-patching capabilities)

1. Obtain the patch.

2. Place the patch and the ROM in the same folder.

3.Name same name, except for the .xxx For example, You might name the patch FF5.ips and the ROM FF5.xxx (not really xxx, I forgot the extension for SNES Roms, so leave that the same)

4. It should work fine, so enjoy!

Hope that helped.

If you want to apply the patch permanently to your file (i.e. modifying your rom so that it by itself contains the translation, there's a program called "snestool" that you can use to apply IPS patches.

Make sure you find yourself a good translation patch; I was lucky on my first try but I've heard of crappy jobs out there. I think the best on--with the "standard SNES-version" English names, such as Lenna, Exdeath, and Guido--was made by RPGe.

I believe it does I think you need to directly patch with snes9x.

I just directly patch anyways.

i remember trying to use the title change method for Star Ocean on the snes9x and It didn't work.

The difference is that SNES9x does not have auto-patching (I believe) which means that you will need the patching program. Since auto-patching is avalible, I'm probably too lazy to go any other way.

[EDIT]Oops. I ment SNES9x, not ZSNES. I know that has auto-patching

ZSNES does support auto patching. Rom and IPS patch must have the same name.

you need a ips patcher

like snestool
or
lunar ips

after downloading either of those programs the process is self-explainatory.
