Hello... first post here so i'll make it short and sweet.

Some questions I have.

1 - What do all of the stats mean? E.g. Strength, Vitality, Spirit, etc. (I searched Google for hours and couldn't find out.. I even look through the manual)

2 - Is it possible to pair Counter materia with 4x-cut and actually have it work?

3 - Is it possible to pair Elemental or AddedEffect materia with any materia that will nullify or reduce damage on any of Emerald Weapons beam attacks?

More 2 come..

I can answer a couple of these questions for you.

1. Strength is attack power; Vitality is defense; Spirit is magic defense; Dexterity is speed; Luck shows the likelihood of critical hits and other such effects, including the accuracy of D. Blow.

2. Counter is generally used with other command materia, such as Deathblow, or with magic and summons. It would be most effective with Deathblow, Ultima, or Knights of the Round.

3. Sorry, can't help you here. I never took on Emerald Weapon. After my first encounter with him, I decided to steer clear of him for fear of a one hit party kill. I know nothing of how to beat him.

Luck also affects evasiveness, and accuracy entirely

I'm pretty sure that 4x-cut can't be paired with counter, if it could people would be talking about it all the time.
and would be one of the favorite combos

3-never played around with that when facing emerald weapon.
elemental and added affect seemed to take up too much materia space, because Aire tir Am(i think that's what it's called) does more the damage with more materia equipped

2- Actually, I believe you can. Counter works with Command materia, and 4x Cut is a command...the reason most don't talk about it is that you can only get Counter (not Magic Counter or Counter Attack) after you're done with the majority of the game. And 4x hit isn't going to do a ton to Emerald (and even less to Ruby), unless you have several pairings of Counter+4x Cut.

3- You can pair Added Effect with Hades to do away with most if not all of the effects Ruby's tentacles can do to you. Although, I don't think Hades petrifies enemies, as the tentacles do, so you wouldn't be completely safe. I've heard (only heard, however, never tested) that pairing Ultima or some other non-elemental attacking materia with Elemental nullifies any non-elemental attacks; namely, Ruby's dreaded Ultima.

And Cloud Strife was correct; Aire Tam Storm does 1111 damage per materia equipped. The materia slots necessary to even possibly fend off his non-elemental attacks is not worth it, and I don't think he does any status affecting attacks.

Whats the record time for a 1-party member solo against emerald weapon. This is with the usual rules..

No KotR
No Mime
No Ultimate Weapon
No Lukcy 7
No cait sith win
No final attack + phoenix
Faster Battle Speed
Active Mode
*Edit: And with no hero drinks if they went no-life and morphed up a bunch of sources from Gelnika to max every stat.

Actually you may eventually be able to beat him if you use Quadra Magic + Bahamut Zero.
Counter Magic + Ultima
Counter
Enemy Skill Materia (including Shadow Flare)
2 Magic Plus 50%
HP and MP plus 50%
Cloud and Omnislash

I don't know a top time for doing this though.

Hmm... Cause I think I managed a pretty good time of 2 mins 40 seconds (I posted it in sweetdude's EMerald thread). With 1vs1 using Cloud

It is a genius strategy imo go take a look.. Every turn you have full HP after 7 counter attacks, and have choice of doing 4x cut or omnislash.

I play for the enjoyment and to discover things i didn't see during my last play through. (during my last play through i missed out the entire Gongaga villiage bit and went straight from the Prison to Cosmo Canyon)

And not to spend 200 hours levelling up so i can beat Emerald in 0.327 seconds while only equiping a boomerang and a muffin . . . sorry, i'll probably find myself doing it in a few minutes.

I like doing that kind of stuff because you're always trying to beat the most equal opponent you'll ever find.... yourself!

And BTW... You said you play for enjoyment. Beleive me, if I didn't enjoy doing this I wouldn't be doing it.

There are a lot of hardcore RPG fans that really love doing stuff like that mertinatron... I actually love making my characters power houses, even when there's no bosses left to fight (save the end one). =P

I'm quite happy to trash a boss by whatever means necessary, but I'm impressed by all these players who do solo games, low level games, no skill games, etc. of various RPGs. Especially when I see a boss that thrashed my level 30 party defeated by a level 3 party. =P
