For the longest time, I really disliked this track because unlike many other FF arrange soundtracks, nothing about this one struck out to me. I recently decided to go through the list and I'm really loving most of the songs, especially Blackjack. For those of you who've heard the songs, which are your favorite(s) in this soundtrack and why?

I'll be truthful: I've never actually heard the soundtrack, but I know what my favorite tunes are. I'll give you my top 3. 1. Aria Mezzo de Caratiere (not sure on spelling, but you probably know what I'm referring to). This tune always brings a tear to my eyes when I hear it, because it's so beautiful. 2. Locke's Theme (not sure of actual title). I love the excitement that this track can induce in the player. 3. The music from the battle w/ Atma Weapon (not certain of title). This track is also very exciting. I love how it sounds like there's an electric guitar playing throughout (for all I know, there could be!).

I like Terra's theme (especially in the opening), Aria di Mezzo, and Devil's Lab.

The arrangement of Relm's theme on Grand Finale irks me, but mostly because of the really sharp sound of the bagpipes and the way it just suddeny cuts off.

I really like Terras theme and the Aria di Mezzo arrangements. But as for much of the rest of it, somehow this collection seems a little less refined than a lot of the other FF symphonic/instrumental collections (like Potion or White).

I definitely like FF6's piano collections better than Grand Finale. I think it's the GF's arrangement of the opera that saved it for me, though. biggrin.gif

Relm's Theme is the worst on the Grand Finale as well as Troops March On, IMO. Listening to the Piano Collections, I still prefer the Grand Finale over that. The songs in the Piano Collections sound more or less the same as the OST, with the exception of Johnny C. Bad and Mystery Train. Waltz the Chocobo is also good, but I found myself getting bored of the song toward the end. Grand Finale turns the songs into something new and nice in my ears, which is why I prefer it over the Piano Collections.

I don't like this in the soundtrack or in the piano collections. Some of the themes are so short as to be unrecognizable until they're over, and the bridges are ugly.

I have tried for years and years to like this album, but I can't. It just sounds awful. I think there was something wrong with the recording equipment, or the acoustics of the room in which the orchestra played, or something, because something just sounds off, and I can't believe it was the entire orchestra. Like, the instruments seem to play at different tempos, to terrible wince-causing effect, and some of them are way too loud (bagpipes in Relm's theme) while some of them are nigh inaudible. The melodies often tend to meander into cacaphony or just plain boringness.

That being said, my favorite tracks are the Opening Theme/Terra's Theme (though the 02202002 Terra's Theme is similar and better) and Kefka's Theme, where the banging, crashing, unpleasantness actually works.

BTW, I'm surprised to hear people group Piano Collections in the same category, because I love P.C., especially Celes's Theme, which I think is the best rendition of her song you're likely to find anywhere. It's one of the best of the piano collections...es, IMO.
