...favorite weapon of choice in the FF games?

I like the 'wierd' weapons, Megaphones and Paint Brushes. You gotta wonder how the weapons shops stock up on the latest palette or microphone.

As always, my preference is not just ranged weaponry, but for firearms.

As far as I am concerned, a close combat weapon is a backup. It's just a pity every playable character to use a gun in a final fantasy so far has had some problem. Barret had a silly, impossible weapon, Irvine was a moron and used only shotguns, and Vincent... Well, he's a bit odd.

Although I'm preferable to weapons with funny and mostly useless special characteristics, guns are always at the top of my list. Musical instruments probably come next, as I love weird ranges and status effects that harps deliver.

Good, old-fashioned, traditional swords are my favorites. The Blood Sword, Excalibur, Save the Queen, and Ragnarok. The gunblade would be second place, but in the FF series, I'd classify that as more of a sword. Katanas, however, take second place with the cool names and swords like the great Masamune along with the awesome Draw Out skills from FFT!

Sorry if I dissapoint you but I have nothing to do with hacking...

While I prefer to utilize my fists in a dance macabre...I am not above using firearms to finish the job. My next favorite weapon class is the sword, of which I own several, specifically claymores and rapiers. Being an occasional archer I also value the longbow (my personal preference is the longbow over the crossbow, just seems more elegant) And finally flails and axes for bludgeoning various and sundry objects to death.

Honestly? Axes. I think they're brutal killing machine weapons. Unfortunately, they're almost ALWAYS dumbed-down compared to swords in rpgs - for being a slower, heavier weapon they do less damage than the faster, lighter swords PER hit in the higher weapon levels. Argh! it kills me.

Guns are definitely fun, but only the musket/rifle variety. Im not a pistol fan.

I agree...axes are always given the short end of the stick while the swords are given godly powers and such...it really is annoying to see a +5 Vorpal sword of stinging and then just aplain old bronze axe...man, it gets old.

This was a real hard one. I was stuck between bows and rods but then I chose rods/staves because you can use magic, and you can deal damage/death at a distance rather than putting yourself in jeopardy and making it possible for you being the death.

I decided to vote "Other" because my personal favorite weapon type wasn't listed: Claws! There ain't nothing like attacking the opponent with your hands as lethal weapons. Overall, I've always preferred melee combat over ranged. It's just more exciting. Claws are the ultimate melee weapon because you gotta use your hands to attack the opponent rather than some blade that increases your reach by like 3 feet. Claws are also much quicker and can do more damage in a shorter amount of time. Also, my favorite FF chick can use them(I have the hots for Tifa).

I chose spear. I can't really say why but it was probably a mix between liking Kain so much in FFIV and the death of King Arthur in Excalibur. It was nice and bloody for a adolescent boy that I was when I first watched it.

It really depends on the game. I'm an efficiency-freak with most RPGs, so I often obsess over which characters and weapons are the best within their own games. Like axes in Fire Emblem 6-8, Knight Swords in FFT, swords in Disgaea, you get the idea.

If I had to pick a general overall favorite, though, it would be whips. I'm one of the three or four people in the world that actually likes to use Ernest in SO 2. Must be my Castlevania upbringing.

Whips are awesome in the very few Final Fantasy titles they are found in as well. I actually master trainer in FFV just to get EqWhip.

I would choose swords, but someone who could use some kind of magic along with it. Possibly Blue Magic, just because it's support and could back you up in a time of crisis.
