I voted Bartz because I found him amusing. I'm always drawn to the main characters anyway. If I could've voted for more than one, I would've voted for Gilgamesh (he was hilarious!) and Galuf (nuff said) too.

Butz.. (or Bartz as the poll says) .. sorry I play the RPGe translation from like.. 10 years ago. He's loyal to the crew (like main characters are) and is by far a great piano player.

Faris. She's just plain awesome.
She also has the potential to be amazingly hot. My vote goes to her. |

I can't believe that as of this post, Gilgamesh is winning.
I never thought him as such a substantial character. That, and when he should've pulled in at the end to help out, he wasn't necessary, I won too fast, so I totally missed that. I must admit, in final form, he looks pretty sweet, but seriously, is he that good that there are more people on this forum that think he's better than any of the main characters? I've never seen such devotion to a side character. He annoyed me more than anything else... -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! I think gilgamesh was very cool and I also liked how he was a recurring character.

I'm gonna say...Faris. Honestly, I hated most characters from V due to a lack of character development- but I thought Faris was kinda cool, and Gilgamesh was a far second.
Still, I prefer the purple-haired sprite Faris as opposed to Amano's long blonde hair in a ponytail approach. -------------------- FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver. |

My favorite character is... YOUR MOM
...Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist. But yeah, as most people said, I always thought most of the character is this game seemed kind of flat, and Faris was an exception, in my opinion. In a close second... GOGO. -------------------- "So imagine Kefka swearing and yelling that he'll take revenge, but doing so in a way that's... somehow... polite and feminine." |

i picked Gilgamesh because it's kinda funny how he thinks up so many excuses to flee the battle.

I chose Gilgamesh because of his change in personality near the end. He's, imo, one of the only dynamic characters in the game. The main characters don't really change at all, except for maybe Faris.
Also, Gilgamesh has the coolest theme song ever. (Battle on Big Bridge). He comes up with some cool lines and has an awesome sprite. In fact, Gilgamesh is one of the only characters in FF that I've actually drawn out until the end and colored it. |

He was one of Kelga's men. I think one of the villagers in Kelga's village mentions his name, but I don't remember what it was. EDIT: I love how Gilgamesh is destroying the entire poll. I've noticed that the majority of people who seem to complain about Gilgamesh winning, are the people that voted for Faris (the 2nd place winner so far).
I still think Faris should be winning, but I have a little more respect for Gligy's turncoat tendencies now that I'm in a History class in college. According to what we learned, the original Gilgamesh was a king of the city of Ur in ancient Mesopotamia/Babylonia (that area) that was very powerful and energetic. He forced his people to work long hard hours to keep up with the rigorous pace that he cruised along at, and the people were getting sick of it, so they found a half-man/half-beast outside of town, and talked him into attacking the city, knowing Gilgamesh would wrestle the beast personally. (giving the people time to relax, as the king was preoccupied Kind of roundabout, with a lame ending. But still a few parallels drawn to what they threw into the games. Faris should be winning still -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! As everyone who's read the SSCC thread knows my vote is going out to Faris.
in a game with a fairly minimalistic storyline, Faris has the most character development within and outside of the dialogue. Her character sprites are way above the others in my book. And she's a swashbuckling pirate to boot. And of course we can't forget she's just as spicy as her name. For some reason I felt like throwing a corny comment in there -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

The pirate factor would seem to count for a lot...
Actually that's a reason I don't like Faris. Quite aside from the ridiculous plot device of "shock from falling into the sea" bringing on amnesia (again) there's the issue of sinking and stealing the ships that, by birth, she should be protecting. We don't see it, yet she is, well, a pirate. My vote goes out to Cara, as she has special powers like talking to animals. She is also the only character with innate magical ability (in the plot, I mean). Finally she is the only character to really show her vulnerable side, in the ending. |

Haha, I'm surprised there's still people in this thread.
I'm playing through at the moment, and just wanted to check whether there's anything to do before I totally destroy X-Death. Muahhahaaha. From where I'm at the moment, it's got to be Galuf. He's such a legend. The charecters might not be that developed, but I liked the basic chemistry between them, and how they were all kind of cute and innocent, yet determined. It added to the whole thing seeming like an epic quest. Only seen Gilgamesh like twice at the moment though, so I 'may' be swayed... I'm kind of pissed that you guys said he switches sides though, dam... My fault though I guess =( Oh, and x-death has to be the worst. What a crappy villain with a crappy name. They should have called the main boss Odin, and had Gilgamesh as his loyal companion who eventually comes to his senses. |

Odin's been a summon in FF games since FF III for the NES. It would be a little strange for him to suddenly be the final villain in the series. Where exactly in the game are you now? -------------------- |

I'm about to go to the pyramid. Farmed for too long in X-Death's castle against blue dragons so I really can't be arsed with a dungeon at the moment - random encounters make me kinda angry sometimes. Can't believe I've clocked 40 hours already. I have left it on whilst I've been on PC quite a bit though I suppose... |

I beat the game a lot faster than that, last playthrough was 36 hrs - that's because I got four of every purchasable equipment, got all the Blue Magic except that blasted, BLASTED Mighty Guard, got 99 DarkMatter from the Prototypes (Control) and spent far too much time gathering and selling DragonFangs in the Valley of the Hiryuu... AND I left it on most nights.
...Don't bother with the dragons. They're not worth it. You get 2500 EXP for every ShieldDragon you beat - just head to Kuzar with a Hypno Crown/Coronet/whatever you version calls the Controller headgear. EDIT: Whoops, I actually posted here because I had more to add on Cara. She could tell about Exdeath's illusion; she always knew exactly what to do in every situation (The Elder Tree is the exception), she could see Syldra's soul, she could talk to Boko... She is by far the coolest, most naturally talented character in the game. Vote Cara! This post has been edited by Targ Collective on 20th March 2008 12:18 |
