Me and a good freind are having a contest. This involves beating Emeral the first time you fight him. We're each making a save on the submarine before you fight then collect the Huge materia; then straight away charge into Emeral Weapon. You like? Please post your favourite tactics but don't include either Final Attack or Knights of the Round because they're boring.

I'll start us off with this old chestnut:
Cait Sith's Slots limit break. Three cats kills any enemy in one.

Post any tactic you like, no matter how small or crazy!

Three kitties is always fun! =3

That, and pimping out your character with eight Counter/Mimes, that's pretty awesome to do. I still want to recreate the Ungarmax video, but I have done it with Omnislash before.

Yeah a no materia battle with Cloud is always fun. Who would have thought Wutai would give you so many x-potions... The counter-mime technique; tedious but well worth it in the end. And 1:18 is 1:18 eh?

Do you have Mime already......?

If so a few counter Mimes after your Limit should do the trick

If not, there's always keeping the number of materia you have equipped under 9 using a few Counter Attack materias

Yeah Mime, Quadra Magic, KotR (boo) and the other materia in the secret caves you can get as soon as you get the highwind; with a little chocobo breeding.

As for keeping the materia low, certainly. If fact this is essential to my tactic:

Have 9,999hp with all characters and two materia each
Keep them at that throughout the fight by constantly using x-potions from Wutai
(I have no W-Item)
As Emerald uses Aire Tam Storm it will damage me by 2,222hp therefore each character will have 7,777hp
Lucky 7s...

That's actually quite ingenious.

Haha, thanks. You heard it here first!

Remember post anything you like here. It doesn't neccessarily need to be ways of killing Emerald it could be ways of getting stronger characters etc.

Wow. . .That is impressive. A friend of mine has been looking for a way to beat Emerald without KotR/Quad Magic/Mime. This is probably the best way

Without them? That's what I like to hear!

Tell your friend to try a no materia limit battle. They are loads of fun and rewarding when you win. Also don't use Underwater materia it's not needed.

What's everyone's best time at beating him?
Mine is 3:47. The Ungarmax/Counter-Mime guy did it in 1:18!

I got somewhere around 4 minutes.

Yeah, I thought of the Lucky 7s, but my HP isn't high enough at level 99 to be 9,999. I guess I could put on HP Plus, but....Still, it's pretty awesome.

And...videos! Yeah, I like posting videos.

This is the Barret video. You don't need to know Japanese to understand what's going on here, so meh.

These videos' legitimacy is questionable, so I'll leave it up to you to decide if they're real or not. They still look awesome, nonetheless. happy.gif

Ah yeah I've seen them all. What amazes me about the Tifa one is the level 7 part of it. Can't be legit... surely? Or is there a way/glitch/code to lower her level? As you may have guessed, I can only play the PSX version.

No, they kill her for the duration of the game. The questionable legitimacy comes from the fact that she uses Final Attack/Revive and then Mimes a KOR. And the fact that they have the Help bar on all the time is really odd too. Though fast-forwarding is a no-brainer, nobody wants to sit through all of that.

So he'd keep her in his party for the entire game... makes sense I suppose. I know what you mean about the help bar that's really not necessary. Although my friend does keep his open all the time - really annoying.

As for the Ungarmax/Counter-Mime... I don't understand how he made it counter. In the video he USES Mime then it is repeated. I'm not saying it isn't legit I just don't understand it.

Y'mean how Counter/Mime works? Well, since Mime is attached to Counter, he uses Mime when Emmy uses his big laser thing on him, and since eight of those are linked together, he uses it eight times. (Although I don't think it took all eight to kill him, so meh.)

What I mean is if you watch the video, Barret USES Mime AFTER Emerald has attacked him and then the Counter/Mime kicks in. I'm unsure how that happens.

Barret doesn't actually use Mime on the command menu. He uses Ungarmax, and then Emerald WEAPON attacks him, and then the eight Counter/Mimes kick in.

He doesn't use it? That explains it.

I like the single character Cloud the best. My Cloud's strength is at 255 so I might as well recreate it but with the Buster Sword. My friend told me today he's beaten Emerald straight off the submarine within 30 seconds. That has seriously stung me. I really hope the Lucky 7s kills him earlier. To achieve this I've altered the tactic slightly...

Each character have 9,999hp
Give each character materia which will reduce their hp by 10%
Therefore I'll BEGIN the battle with 7,777hp

Damn chocobo breeding,
The Blue one is STILL refusing to sleep with her brother; the Green one.

I might try a Counter-Attack battle where each character has one mastered of that materia and I just heal ALL THE TIME. Think it might work in 20 minutes?

Did your friend use Cait Sith's Slots? Because I don't think anything short of that will beat the 1:18 record here. (Although I've gotten three kitties before! thumbup.gif Such cute kitties...wub.gif )

Anyway, still, good luck! thumbup.gif

Yeah he must have done. What am I meant to do?! I can never beat that. I'll just have to hope that, on the night, he can't get the cats on his first limit...

Thanks for the luck, I'll need all I can get without being able to morph them on the Gelinka...

As in, your friends battle only lasted 30 seconds........I don't know if I'd believe that.

Your strategy to have 9,999 HP and then drop it by 10% would give you 9,000 HP not 7,777. Good thinking though, I'm quite impressed by the Aire Tam Storm "two materia" strategy (I'm surprised I've never heard it before).

........oh and yes Chocobo Breeding is Sick and Wrong, and annoying as all heck

I know sorry HUGE mistake I have no idea why I wrote that! I'll try different materia combinations until I can get it to where I want, even if it's just one character. I'm sure I saw something like that somewhere... However I want to do this myself without copying anyone else's tactic. Hence the reason I'm not using the Counter/Mime Ungarmax method.

I believe that he did do it in 30 seconds, you know why? Because he sent me the picture...

Have you asked him how he pulled that off yet? That's just ridiculous. He had to have used Slots to do it in 30 seconds. If that is the case, good luck with the Slots trying to beat his time.

It MUST have been slots. The only faster method would be... Flash (if it worked). Like I say, I don't know if he'll be able to come up with 30 seconds on the night. He may only get it on his second limit break or something which will give me some breathing space. I'll need each character on 7,777hp to beat him.

Does anyone know how to get this? I said I wouldn't copy other people but I've got exams and can't afford to go on FFVII for like 5 hours a day like him!

Oh, well there was some sort of mathematical setup on Gamefaqs, on the Lucky 7s guide, I believe. I don't really remember it, but you can go look yourself. (If it was that guide...well, I think it was.)

I made a small update yesterday so don't ask me for a character/level/materia combination since HP/MP growth are RANDOM.

I think the section that will be the most useful to you will be: Achieving 7777HP.

HP/MP growth random... That's a huge blow. I guess there's no easy way to beat 28 seconds. Yes that's right he sent me another pic...

Nice FAQ, I guess I'll have to pour more hours into the game with trial and error to obtain 7,777hp - Chocobuckle is a fantastic idea but I simply don't have the time to run away from 2,222 battles. My best bet would be Demi 2, that sounds realistic. I was SO gutted when I tried Coin but it wouldn't attack my party.

Oh dear god... the Lucky 7 trick...

I cant believe I forgot about that, I obsessed over it, using the hp materia and attacking my own characters to get it to work. I remember getting three characters to 7,777 before the Emerald Fight but I cant remember what happened. I think I blacked out and lost all memory of the Lucky 7 trick until just today...

The best thing to do is get the last two hp digits to 77 and then use potions to get up to 7,777.
