i have not played this game just yet, but its looks pretty damn good. i heard that there are SOO many characters that have a chance of being in your party. ill definitely try it out, but for some reason i have this feeling that im not gonna like. i know, thats weird that i think it looks good and at the same time i think im not gonna like it, but that what im feeling right now. we'll see what happens tho.

GI covered it in their last issue and really liked it (gave it a 9.something), while IGN and Gamespot said it was pretty good (late 7 to mid 8, I think). The consensus is that it's a pretty good Suikoden-style game that starts too slow but gets good after around 15 hours (!!!) of gameplay. I'll probably play it eventually, but I'm definitely in no hurry to.

I saw Radiata Stories at Best Buy the other day for twenty bucks, and I'm not sure it's on the Greatest Hits label yet either. If it's so cheap and it's an RPG(ish), I'll probably pick it up in the near future.

i disagree with all of the reviews. i actually went out and wasted $50 on this game because of all the high reviews it got, and ended up not playing it much after ~15 hours of gameplay (incidentally, i got to the "good" part where you get a bunch of freedom, and all the loads of waiting just to get party members and such made the game even *slower*). the visauls are great, some of the music is pretty solid, and the story seems to be shaping up decently, if not a bit like a something we've all heard 1000 times. however, the feel of the game has no weight whatsoever, and the "innovative" battle system is absolutely numbing.

I rented Radiata Stories to see what all the fuss is about, and so far my impression is, simply put, "meh."
Granted, I'm only around four hours into it, but I have yet to see anything resembling a plot. That's not to say it won't present one eventually, but I'm wondering if it's even worth the "slow" progression. I mean, there's already the foresight of several upcoming clichés, and other than the kicking and angering of townsfolk no distinction appears fresh or of much enthusiasm. Also, Jack would benefit well from several blows to the head; I haven't had to witness this much stupid in a main character since FFX. Quite frankly, so far I've just been bored stiff with it. I'll continue playing, but my first impression prevents me from having any high hopes. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Quote (Game Informer Magazine) Almost all of the key events are time-triggered, leaving you to freely explore the vibrant world between major happenings. As such, you don't always know what to do to advance the story-but with a pool of 177 allies to recruit, keeping busy is rarely a problem. Personally, I like a set course more. Game Informer also says that the battle system is simple to a fault, and who doesn't like a complex battle? I also heard that some of the characters are extremely hard to recruit. ![]() -------------------- eh? |

After playing the game finally (for twenty bucks, too -- man did that price hold!), I'm pretty happy with the game. I'm repulsed a little because it's a revamped SO3 battle engine which I absolutely hated, but it's pretty functional and fun this time 'round. The daunting amount of characters seem to be pulled off pretty well, too, since character development comes naturally with a set time schedule. It's full of humor and the story isn't too bad so far (Only 30+ hours into it), although it takes a little while to get used to the expansiveness -- the castle is big enough to need its own map.
At the point I'm in the story, the mission-based part wears thin, but I'll persevere because I like the characters and how the world isn't full of cutouts and text blurbs. It's good playing an RPG that simulates the "alive" feeling. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

tri-Ace made Radiata, not SE.
Radiata's battle system is nothing like Star Ocean 3's, if anything more than that you move around in battle. Anyway, it was pretty awesome. Like expected of tri-Ace, it has plenty of replay value, unlockable goodies, and is somewhat challenging. The story does take awhile to pick up, and it does depend on what path you take (I'd say the Non-Human path has the better story), but the missions and recruitable NPCs and not to mention the mostly cheerful atmosphere is what really shines in this game. Of course, it's mostly happy storyline (like, until the very end) probably turns off some people from playing it, and some of the annoying voice acting (shame, after SO3), but I wouldn't let those things keep me away from it, not to mention that a nice happy story is a bit of a breather given how depressing most RPG stories seem to be. So basically most of Shotgunnova's post, I suppose. -------------------- |

This one of the best games I own. When I got it for Christmas I hardly played any of the other games I had gotten. So far I have a total of about 120+ hours on it.
I let my friend borrow it and he didn't give it back for about a month and a half because he got addicted to it too. Oh yeah, Shotgunnova, the castle does a have a map. -------------------- "Now! Yeah, I just saw that it had a map a few hours ago. Don't need it anymore, though -- after awhile, the locations really sink in. I used to think I had a shot memory, but after learning the time schedules of over 50+ NPCs just by walking around, I might have to reconsider the evaluation. The game's only getting better, too...finally got past that dang Cepheid after I found out Dynas could be in my party.
