I recently got a new cell phone, and am wanting to put FF ringtones onto it. I've used Google to try and find what I need, but any search engine can be a blunt tool, especially when it comes to looking for items that can be commercially sold. I found several tones at some place called Ringophone.com, but not the specific songs I'm looking for. Specifically, I'm looking for Rosa's Theme and Golbeze's Theme from IV and the opening title theme from V. If anyone knows where I could find these already set up as some kind of ringtone, that'd be great. If all else fails, I'm planning to reinvent the wheel and lop off the first 15-20 seconds of each song and transfer it to my phone somehow (not enough memory for the entire song).

Isn't there a way to make your own ringtones? That could be a lot easier than finding them on the ad-laden web.

If I was interested in getting a new ringtone, I'd also search google or the site you mentioned. I'd prolly want something from FFIX or one or two songs I really like from FFVIII, but at the moment, I'm plannin' on stayin' with the Triple H ringtone.

In essence, yes, there are plenty of ways to make your own ring tone. Unfortunately, some phones and phone networks in the US make you jump through hoops or even violate your own warranty in order to add them to your phone without buying them. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

There was a time a half-dozen years ago where searching for midids came up with hundreds of sites where you could freely download midis of your favorite songs - no strings attached. Since the advent of downloadable ringtones, they either charge you a fee or make it IMPOSSIBLE to download them to your PC and manually edit or upload them to your phone.
Still, if you're clever you can find some good/great tracks. Luckily, the industry mostly caters to teeny-boppers and fratboys. Final Fantasy and other game-related midis are relatively easy to obtain in midi or ogg form, slightly more difficult in wav and mp3 format. As an aside, in a thread like this, I tend to research my claims of finding stuff - just google "final fantasy" midi and you'll come up with gobs of sites that have downloadable content absolutely free with no charges. While researching, I came across a couple oddball albums, like He Poos Clouds (http://www.emusic.com/album/10941/10941071.html , http://finalfantasyeternal.com/) - from a band I have never heard of called "Final Fantasy". It seems like that might be the only tie to the series were it not for a cleverly named single "Many Lives for 49 mp." And of course there is the Black Mages (http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/ffbm/index.html). Check 'em out and make ringtones out of them if you like. Yay! -------------------- Oh sure, I don't have to get kicked in the junk to activate it, but I like it anyway. -- Thief commenting on the difference between Throw and Blue Magic. |

You could always just use a program to create the files from scratch. -CSM

Which format does the modern ring tone normally use? If it's ogg vorbis, there are plenty of programs that will convert between MP3 and ogg vorbis. (I have one called 4Musics Multiformat Converter that converts between MP3, WAV, ogg vorbis, and Windows Media.) If I weren't using the tank for a cell phone, I would definitely try to make my own ringtones from my vast collection of music. -------------------- The world before the fall... If your phone can support "polyphonic" ringtones, it's likely that you can use any MIDI you can find as a ringtone. If MIDI is good enough for you, or all your phone can manage, try VGMusic.com, which has a lot of free MIDI versions of FF and other video game themes. Or you could try the FF6 MIDIs in the CoN FF6 section (the other sections have different formats).
If you want to go for some "real music tones" (ugh... Jamster ads stick in your head), well... we can't tell you where to get MP3s of the soundtrack, for political reasons. But for reasons that make no sense whatsoever, I am able to recommend reading up on how to use the Diskwriter plugin in Winamp, and using that to make WAVs of the SPCs, PSFs and such you can find ripped from the game. You can then edit out a particular section of the WAV (Windows sound recorder can do it if you have nothing better) and then convert it to MP3 with the free encoder LAME. |

Well, fortunately I already have the soundtracks. I figured out how to use the editing software that comes with my cd burner to lop off the first 18-20 seconds of the songs I want. So now all I have to do is transfer it to my phone. I tried emailing them to the phone, but it seems there's a size limit, or maybe a file format limit. *shrugs* In any case, it seems I'll have to put out 30 bucks for a cable to connect my phone to my computer and see if I can download them. If anyone has any better suggestions, I'm all ears.

Jeez why pay online to get ringtones? Or download the low-quality MIDIs?
MP3! All new cell phones support Mp3's...just plug the cell phone to the PC (usb) and transfer what you want. Darn it, here in Greece we don't have money to pay the bills but we have the LATEST models of cell phones. In a concert, EVERYONE pulls out his cell phone and captures videos with 2 megapixel cameras in cell phones. FFS... -------------------- Ask me ANY FFV question! PM me! Most American carriers do not support direct install of MP3s to your phones without purchasing them or hacking the phone's internal software. Additionally, mobile phone technology is behind in the US relative to Europe and Asia due to, among other things, most networks still primarily supporting CDMA phones, which are behind the development curve of GSM phones. Most users of the forums are American. Combine these things and you'll probably comprehend a bit better where we're coming from and maybe you won't be quite so dismissive. That was exactly the point I was trying to make, thanks. On another note, Neal has recently made a ton of ringtones for his freshly hacked phone that I believe he's posted about somewhere around the forums. I made a couple as well when I first hacked my phone. Of course, if you can't get the things on your phone, then it's moot, but hey. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Jeez things are really **** there in America I see...You gotta hack your phone in order to have some Mp3 directly from your pc? Gimme a break! Greece is the Piracy Paradise! Mobile phones, games (that should be bad, but, around 95% of software/games bought in Greece are not original, piracy stuff)...You gotta SEARCH in order to find an original game in European price! A game that costs in Germany 50 E here costs 70 E! Imagine what I get through in order to get my FF games original...!
You see kids playing Resident Evil, talking about cars in NFS and so....8-9 years old kiddies ![]() -------------------- Ask me ANY FFV question! PM me! Sorry if I dissapoint you but I have nothing to do with hacking... |
