I'd add more, but there's only room for ten. That's why I have the "Other" option. I tried to put in as many games as I could.

Anyway, Frog vs. Magus is in my opinion the greatest moment in video game history. Cecil vs. Kain is a close second, followed by Squall vs Seifer. -CSM

All the choices are cool and all, but what constitutes an 'epic duel'? Does it have to be a one-on-one fight? If it isn't, then the final battle of X was pretty epic. (Well, all the FF Final battles are 'epic', but that one had neat music to go along with it well.)

Other than that, Magus vs.

was pretty cool. With Magus' theme and everything.

Cloud vs. Sephiroth, the most dramatic and climactic of the given choices. Sephiroth is defeated and Cloud's mind is finally set free. Frog vs. Magus would be good, but I'm not sure which battle it's actually referring to, and I remember the two Magus battles being party battles. Cecil vs. Kain was my second choice.

Get Magus to join your party, i save state and let Frog fight him just for the fun of it.

But I also like the Cloud Vs Sephiroth one, like triple M said Cloud is finally set free.

Currently I'm going with Ceci vs. Kain, in terms of sheer 'epic'-ness
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Kain is your childhood friend, and after getting seperated on a mission you eventually end up fighting him and lose. Had a very epic feel to it. Plus Kain is just that awsome.

The only other option I would have gone with was Frog vs. Magus
Although their animosity for eachother

mainly glenn vengeful for his best friend's death

Would have made it epic, my first three playthroughs of the game I opted not to fight, because I had seen Magus in the game manual.
although

Killing him does give you and ending with frog as a human, it would have been interesting to have a human Glenn playable, still love the game very much, but there is still a part of me that wants to play as glenn, he'd probably have a whole new set of techs and boosted stats.

Cecil vs. Kain seems like the most epic. Powerful childhood friends coming to arms seems epic to me.

I think the Sephiroth vs. Cloud epic. I love it when two powerful swordsmen duke it out and given the story, both guys have something to prove to one another; Cloud wants to prove to the world and himself that he's stronger than Sephiroth while Sephiroth wants to prove that a small Shinra grunt couldn't possibly be more powerful than the most famous member of SOLDIER.

My favorite is the Squall vs. Seifer duels. Their almost equals in disc one, then he becomes an easy boss battle when Squall's got his friends to back him up on the 2-3 times you have to beat him in discs 2 & 3, but you can't deny that the opening cinematic of Squall vs. Seifer is just plain awesome.

It's one on one duels. And the Frog vs Magus duel happens in one of the endings. THAT's the epic duel I'm referring to. The scene at the end where Frog stands victorious atop Magus' castle has been reenacted in flash movies more than any of the other duels I mentioned. -CSM

thats one bizzare twist. I mean it doesnt get anymore nailbitting than that. It was also kool to see the Playstation version where there was an anime cinimatic before you faught him for the first time.

Ramza v. Whoever He Fights in Chapter 4 at Igros is pretty epic to me. A traitorous party uncovered, and you fight your way up the stairs to fight duel to the death. Other than that, I guess I could pick Squall/Seifer, even if the duel is simply intense, not really epic.

I'm surprised Squall vs. Seifer is doing so well. It's a well done CG animation, but I guess I never considered it that "epic" because the rivalry between Squall and Seifer never develops into an intereting or important part of FFVIII. Seifer shows up to fight a few times, but mostly when he's mind-controlled in ways that are blatantly borrowed but not as well executed as Kain. From the opening I expected him to be a cool antagonist, but like most of FFVIII it never met my expectations. His presence throughout the game is awkward at best, and Seifer's character is one of the most underdeveloped of the game. It's a great set up, but it falls really, really flat, and I would probably place it towards the bottom of the list.

I chose other...I'm thinking of FuSoYa and Golbeze versus Zeromus...this was a great battle because of the theme it carries, a brother seeking redemption for his past. We always touch on how Cecil redeems himself, but never do we focus on Golbeze and his change toward the end. It really is an important part of the story and a great way to show that people can always change their destinies.

I concur, GMH. It was so unexpecting to see that awesome battle with such an awesome super boss battle theme. All other fights were ok and Cloud and Sephiroth was obviously expecting and fan service.

I voted for Sabin Vs. Vargas because there were three of them: Edgar, Locke, and Terra pounding away at Vargas and they got blown away and couldn't beat him!! But here comes Sabin and beats him in one hit with his Blitz! Sabin is awesome! thumbup.gif cool.gif

Wow, which game is it? Must play that if it's as good as you say.

For me, Kain vs Cecil. A seriously hard fight if you try and "beat" him, two great friends, two odd animations - what could be better for an epic duel?

Ooooh, good choice. Hadn't really considered that one. Definitely epic, and a big turning point in the story. I'd probably still rank it behind the two I previously mentioned, but it's definitely worthy of consideration.
