I don't think he's a vampire, as he doesn't appear to be undead and doesn't drink blood. As far as I can tell, Vincent is a human who has been treated with something to give him superhuman powers. He can turn into a monster for a limited time (his limit breaks), but goes berserk during those times.
I'm not sure how you would explain his long sleep. Maybe he was put in a state where his body went into some sort of hibernation? -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Yeah I agree that the experiment has changed him in a lot of ways but him being a vampire in my opinion is nonsense Square just did that to try and make Dirge of Cerberus a little bit more interesting. He can transform when he has his Limit Break full but being a vampire... HA he doesn't suck people's blood or anything. This post has been edited by Silver 09 on 25th June 2006 21:15 |

Actually, that's a good question. I heard so many things proclaiming him to be a vampyre before I played the game, I assumed he was. And he looks like one, his personality is more of the romantic, movie-type vamps than a genetic weirdo, etc. But what is he? Hm, I don't think he's a vampyre. For one, that wouldn't be out-there enough. A ton of games have vamps in them, and FF generally goes against the norm, at least in that department. Yet, I don't think he's human, either. A human sleeps for 30 years, they die from starvation. If they did live, somehow, they'd come out looking 30 years older. Cloud's DNA is pretty messed-up, and you don't see anything of the sort with him. I think Vincent might have been different to begin with. He was a Turk, so he had to be stronger than normal in some way, and his skin was already disturbingly pale...who knows? He would have made an amazing vampyre though...*sigh*

HA he doesn't suck people's blood or anything. Dirge of Cerberus wasn't even planned when FF7 was in the works... I agree that he definately isn't a vampire. He's as much a vampire as whiny goth kids who think they're unique and special because they dunk their heads in white facepaint every morning. He has dark clothing. He acts dark and mysterious. That's it. If anything he'd be closer to a were of some kind, given his limit breaks. But even that's a bit of a stretch as he never acts that way outside of battle. And even less as a vampire. This is a fantasy roleplaying game, not some little World of Darkness gathering between a bunch of geeks who have to pretend they're vampire to compensate for a declining social life. ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 25th June 2006 23:09 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

vincent, is human, but after the experimentation, Vincent has been cursed with eternal youth and were-like abilities. Vincent is most certainly not a vampire, but he lives without any food or drink.

There's no indication that Vincent has eternal youth or that he doesn't need food or drink, infact if you want to play it by the game, none of the characters had to stop mid-play for a bite to eat, though there were clearly restaurants and whatnot. (With the exception of Cloud in Wall-Market, of course.)
Also, I don't recall mention of Vincent sleeping for 30 years, I just seem to remember him sleeping for a "long time", but I suppose that length of time is plausible since he was laid to rest originally around the time of Sephiroth's birth, who I'd assume would be reasonably older than Cloud given that during Cloud's childhood, Sephiroth was already the top-ranking Shinra SOLDIER. Still, in terms of dates and times, FFVII is a swiss cheese of plot holes, so it's hard to be certain of anything. Anyways, I very much doubt that Vincent is at all a vampire, or anything other than a human with a few extra perks like transforming into various beasts and the apparent capability to defy gravity at certain points in the game. In a world where you can summon giant freakin' dragons, rain meteoric death upon your enemies and a plethora of other ridiculous things, it's not so hard to imagine Vincent's abilities being in the scope of the "norm". They're probably just various things Hojo took from a Mako Reactor and injected/inserted into his system. The only vampiric resemblance is that he sleeps in a coffin and looks like he visits the same stylist as Marilyn Manson. I always thought the coffin was just symbolic and the clothing was...well, never intentionally made to look so dark and dirty, they were probably just the clothes that he fell asleep in and got raped by age, use and moths as he slept. Or something. Anyways, he's definatly not a vampire. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Has anyone else (beside myself and Dragon Fire) forgot that none of them eat? I mean it is never seen, mentioned only in an expletive ridden scene with Cid, etc...But no one eats in these games!! Gah! That's annoying. Anyway, Vincent is just a poor soul who Hojo messed with to get him out of the way. Hojo shoots Lucrecia's friend cause he's a threat, panics, decides to experiment on him ( maybe as a precourser to the SOLDIER program) and drops him in a coffin, probably in a comatose state. Cloud and co. mention Sephiroth in normal conversation, Vince hears em talking and you know the rest.

Quote There's no indication that Vincent has eternal youth or that he doesn't need food or drink Vincent sleeping in a coffin for 40+ years and not aging a day doesn't constitute for eternal youth? and for no eating or drinking was put, because there is no way he could have gotten something to eat or drink while laying in a coffin. Vincent is not a vampire. Other than appearances and the whole coffin thing, Vincent has never had a problem with daylight, garlic, blood supply, or crosses.
However, I don't think his similar appearance to one is a coincidence. Hojo messed with Vincent big time. He instilled a beast demon, a Jason Vorhees-like demon (Hellmasker), and a Frankenstein-like demon (Gigas). Vincent later gained control of a demon critter called Chaos that resembles some interpretations of a devil. They're all horror movie monsters -- so why not make Vincent in his normal form more unapproachable and scary while not completely warping him? Make him look like a vampire and age like one too. Hojo may have thought it funny to put him in a coffin to top it off. But that's just speculation on my part. As to the whole eternal life thing, he hasn't aged for 30 years; he was 27 physically when he was shot, and he was 27 physically when he came out of the coffin in FF7. In his profile on the AC website, Vincent hasn't aged two years; he's still 27. This indicates that he may never age past 27 physically or that he ages significantly slower than normal humans. That said, he probably has a longer lifespan than his friends. Immortal? Likely not. How long will he live? Unknown. Could he die looking 27? Possibly. Will he be alive long after everyone is dead? Imagine what perverse glee Hojo would have knowing that even if Vincent overcome everything thrown at him, he'd still have to watch everything he grew to love die long before he did. In short, plausible. This post has been edited by The Guitar Slayer on 26th June 2006 18:13 |

Vincent was definitely sleeping for around 30 years. If you check out his bio I think it gives his chronological age as 53 or something like that, but that he appears to be 27.
As for vampire, nah, he has some kind of creature grafted into his arm. Like Hojo just used him as Mr. Potato Head. But there are some weirdo things in FF7, and yes it does have a lot of plot holes, but trying to interpret them using our own world *aka vampires* never seems to work very well. -------------------- "Shut up. Quote But he is Immortal. Well I said eternal youth, but not immortal, Vincent probably can be killed, by let's say being shot in the chest and his heart stops beating, or decapatation. Eternal youth just means he cannot age, and therefore cannot die of normal circumstances, Eternal youth would also explain why he would have no need for nutritional substance, since his body does not lose any. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I think it's been established that the arm is nothing but a gauntlet -- it's not hiding some mutation or animatronix. That information came out recently, though; when AC was in its early stages, I thought that Vincent possibly showed Cloud his arm as an old example of Geostigma (gauntlet was a containment unit). However, that was disproven as well as the gauntlet being anything more than something shiny to protect his non-shooting hand. |

If you're referring the the space between his knuckles and his fingers where there's the black forms of fingers, that's probably the glove worn beneath the gauntlet to keep the metal for injurying his hands. As for the rest of his arm, it's covered by cloak and sleeve, so there's no solid evidence that the gauntlet is hiding anything. Also, if Hojo wanted to pervert Vincent in a physically obvious way, he would've done it everywhere, all over, like turning him into a Mako monster or something of the like.

from that picture i can clearly see that Vincent has no torso whatsoever.
but i can slo see that there are only four golden claws, which leaves of the fingers not covered in gold/metal. the other finger is still pointed however. mayb e it's been turned into a clawlike thingy from the experiments, maybe that's just what the sleeve going over it looks like. who knows. -------------------- moƩ in the streets, senpai in the sheets |

Quote How could anyone say that when you can clearly see something beneath the gauntlet in his picture? Those aren't shadows... ![]() Being a stage combat person, I'd speculate that what Vincent likely has is simply armour over a black glove to protect the hand that is not shielded by the gun. Notice that the armour is not jointed at the fingers; there are black spaces, which is the glove, so that he does not lose complete dexterity in his hand. Additionally, the wrist has several plates of armour to make a joint -- the wrist is a very vulnerable spot, so you need to protect it at the cost of having a full range of motion. This is a gauntlet from LOTR. Here, the gauntlet one solid object with no gaps. Why? when holding a broadsword, your fingers essentially all go in the same direction and don't move at all. Your hand does not need to be fully mobile. Meanwhile, Vincent's gauntlet protects most of his hand, but it has the gaps to allow for individual finger motion. Gunmen need to reload and repair guns in battle. You need your finer motor skills to do that, since it's a more delicate instrument than a broadsword. I'd say that the wrist is plate jointed, meaning he can't bend his wrist all the back or all the way forward (meaning he can't be a waiter or walk like an Egyptian), but he probably does have the centre 120 or so degrees of motion (enough to pimpslap someone). His fingers should have all motion. Anyway, it matches his shoes. You have to match your gauntlet with your shoes! It's just not done otherwise. ![]() |

I've always believed vincent's gauntlet was just his armor, some people believe his arm is decayed, maybe that his left arm is always is demon form, or something else. But for me his left arm is normal, his left arm is covered by armor to operate as a shield.

Not a vampire,if he was the gang would be dead by now.
He's just like Super Man, hes a Super Human.Well in a special kind of way, in the so-so scary kind of way. And for the gauntlet, ask Hojo he's the one who had to strip him and then put the new clothes on him. And as for his "shoes" they might actually be comfy cus you never know, he can be wearing Dr.Scholez or whatever it's called. Just a quick thought on his arm...if you pay attention to how he holds it in battle, and how he's generally drawn (including the picture provided here), he's always holding it in an odd way, or not using it as you'd expect an arm to be used. In the game, whenever you shoot a gun that can't be wielded by one arm alone, his armored arm is used only to hold it up. Actually, he doesn't appear to hold it at all, merely use it to take some of the weight off his shooting hand. When not in battle, or when using a smaller weapon, the arm simply hangs at his side. Now, while one could say that this is because the armor makes it difficult to move, you would think he'd occasionally use it as, say, protection.
Several descriptions of his character, from various sources, say that his arm was weakened from Hojo's experiments. I find this to be the most likely explanation. Of course, it could be just for looks. It is rather neat, and has the same effect as his strange, red eyes do: it shows that, even though he looks like a (relatively) normal human, there's something monstrous hidden within. And, it really does match his shoes. After all, if you're going to drown in your own misery, you might as well look good doin' it. -------------------- "If everything's a dream, don't wake me..." |

If the gauntlet has any significant weight, I think it's wiser to keep the arm down, since it balances the recoil (able to hold your ground better?).
As to the gimp theory, possible -- the sprite really doesn't tell you where Hojo shot Vincent, and severing the brachial artery is just as effective as shooting someone in the chest, if not more so; you bleed out fast either way. |

I'm pretty sure a shot to the arm would not remove a member of the turks from consciousness, from the flashback we see vincent get shot,, which puts his lights out, then we see hojo operating on his chest, the screen goes up and you hears noises that lead us to believe Vincent morephed into a monster right then.

Turks may be tough, but they're not Sephiroth or enhanced in anyway that we know of. They're humans. You shoot a man, he goes down. You hit an artery, they bleed out in two minutes or so. Vincent was down and out for the count, artery hit or not; the trauma or shock of the hit may have made him pass out faster than if he bled. FF7 probably gave us as the player a bit of limited omniscence when it showed Vincent's surgery -- Vincent knows it happened, but he wasn't conscious at the time. Just because the character doesn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen, and just because the user sees it doesn't mean the character saw it happen.
