Something I was thinking about...

Now, I haven't played this game in several years, but it has always been my favorite console RPG. I was reminiscing today and thinking of things I'd try if I went through FF6 one more time. The one I kept coming back to was killing Kefka in one combat round, with only one party member in group.

Firstly, I can't remember if this is even possible. I know you have to pick a line-up for the final fight, and that it happens in stages - but I can't remember if you are allowed to pick only one person for the final fight with Kefka, or if your characters just cycle through as they die or something.

Secondly, logistics - I was thinking Terra, with two Atma Weapons equipped (one stolen from Sleep in the final battle, then re-equipped later), best armor, capped level, etc. Kefka has 62k hp, so eight 9,999 hits (genji glove / offering) should take him out.

You guys think this is possible? If it's a remote possibility, I'd like to try it out. If someone's already done it, let me know! Thanks.

As for your first question, upon the death of your entire team (and it's required for you to have a full four-member [or three-member, if you only acquired Celes, Edgar, and Setzer] party), the characters will be replaced by the next four you assigned in the order on the list you fill out before the beginning of the tiered battle.

Secondly, I don't see how that couldn't work out, especially if Terra was the last character assigned to the list and therefore the final living party member, although you would have to remember to equip the Genji Glove beforehand since you can't change your Accessory equips during a battle.

Even though you may have some special reason for Terra to be the last one standing, there are other characters who could take Kefka down in a single round. Locke with the Genji Glove and ValiantKnife, Wind God Gau with the Offering and MeritAward (although that might take two rounds, if Tempest doesn't activate enough times) -- there are other possibilities, but those are the few that come to mind.

Hmm, thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't particularly set on having Terra take him down; it was just that I remembered her being able to kill a few bosses that way back when I had a level 99 Terra with Illuminati and the offering.

edit - So, then, am I understanding correctly that I have to have a full four-member team (or three, if I only have CES), and therefore the party member getting the one-round on Kefka either has to be the last one standing or just the first attacker? I can't just have one person facing off against Kefka with no wounded bodies around, eh?

You don't even need a second Atma Weapon. I've always killed Kefka in one round with a Valiant Knife and an Atma Weapon, but it also works with other weapons if your stats are decent enough.
