I like to think of myself as a mainstream gamer. You know, I play my Metal Gears, Mario, whatever's on my metaphorical plate.
It's weird with We Love Katamari, it didn't seem like a game I'd enjoy until I played it. But now I want more. It's odd because it is repetitive and I hate the soundtrack. Despite that, I really, really need a roll. Uh, yeah. I could always go for Katamari Damacy, but I've been told that We Love Katamari has all the same ideas from that and more. Then I learned that apparently they aren't going to make any new games (Check here, near the bottom of the page where it says "Sequels"), which really stinks 'cos the whole concept feels something like a new-age Pac-Man. and much like pacman, once you've done it one time, you've done a thousand times. you wont find anything new, you wont find yourself saying "sweet! new moves!" it's a great game with the simplest of concepts, but even having one sequel was probably cutting it way to close.
i really dont think there SHOULD be any more sequels. games like Katamari give you clear evidence that innovation isn't dead. every game doesn't have to be the new Halo-Killer or GTA ripoff. katamari was something fresh that made us love it because of what it was. not because of what it reminded us of. maybe they should take the creative minds that spawned Katamari and have them work on a new project. god knows the public loves it electronic crack. Katamari's also pretty repetitive, like Pac-man. Still, think about how many people came back for Pac-man? It also shares the similarity of having an insanely simple concept and tight controls. Interesting point regarding something different though. Still, there's still several options waiting to be explored regarding the whole huge-killer-Japanese-death-ball concept. -------------------- Oh noes! Teh MSN Space! |

I loved Katamari, pure and simple. I actually bought the first one for the soundtrack,
and by the second one I was already hooked. Of course, I'm a huge PacMan fan, too, and I find it interesting that you've connected the two. Honestly, there's a wish in the darkest parts of my soul that wanted to see the new Katamari on Xbox, to take advantage of Live! I fet that with its multiplayer aspects, which is fun with or without the addition of caffiene and alcohol, it would've been a perfect target for add-on content (new maps), paid for via micropayments. I easily would pay out one to two dollars at a time to play new maps with the Budz. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

Massively multiplayer online Katamari deathmatch! Players are eliminated when they are...um...assimilated by other players!
