Whenever I play FFVI and use Setzer's slots I hear a beat in my mind. Several unique beats to be exact, one beat is for flash, H-bomb, et cetera. when i press confirm along with the beat i have 95% accuracy. The only thing that is odd is I can't remember the beats after slot is over, and i don't get to choose the beats, I generally see it when i watch the little symbols like the ships or the 7's.
Anyone else experience something like this? -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

It is true that the slots always have the same starting position (7-7-7) and always repeat the same pattern over and over. So it is almost theoretically possible to memorize the timing. However, if a random number doesn't come into your favor then the 3rd reel will not give you the winning combination. Master Zed has a guide about the slots which explains this in depth. It is worth pointing out that by manipulating the RNG and using the start button to time your slot presses perfectly you can effortlessly get any combination at will.
Link: http://masterzed.cavesofnarshe.com/GameDocs/slotfaq.html Chocobo and Diamond aren't rigged by the RNG, so if you time your presses right you can always get those combinations. There is something else that makes these combinations particularly easy which I don't think ZED ever explains. Namely if you get a chocobo or a diamond as your first symbol, then you will always get the next 2 symbols correctly even if you close your eyes and mash the controller randomly. (This may trick you into making you think you know the timing.) This post has been edited by 1stclass on 1st July 2006 06:13 |

Well 1st class that was very enlightening, I had a feeling the slots were designed somewhat in that way, epsecially with diamond. However what I"m talking about isn't a method to master the slots. I'm just talking about an occurance.
Whenever I start slot I will hear a beat, one of several. For instance I'll start the slot machine and I'll hear what I'll call "H-bomb sonnet". They normally consist of short beats that repeat, I'll press confirm at the end of each stanza and 95% of the time I'll get H-bomb. This only works when I'm not trying to think about it at all, if I think about it that'll be the 5% of the time I mess it up. and my question was whether or not anyone else has ezperinced something like this when using slot. And I'll thank 1st class again for posting that and MasterZed for cracking the slot -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

There's a condition called synesthesia which seems to match up to what you're describing.
It happens to me, but only for distinct patterns. For instance, if I'm doing a lengthy series of copy-paste operations with the keyboard (ctrl+c, alt+tab, ctrl+v, alt+tab, ctrl+c, alt+tab, ctrl+v, alt+tab ...) it'll end up sounding like some repetitive beat. Likewise, repetitive music will end up forming motions in my mind. It has to be very short and big variations in scale matter; anything more than a few notes is too complex. An example which always does it for me is Iron Maiden's "Hallowed be thy Name" (the second half has a lot of instances where it repeatedly plays a downwards scale then immediately switches to an upwards scale.) I've always wondered what hooking your eyes up to your hearing and vice-versa would be like. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

that's intersting what hit me the most was when they werer talking about numbers having texture, association of shapes with numbers. although i've never experienced letters and colors. It's strange, but yet that made perfect sense SL.

I don't know why you still bother, Setzer's pretty stupidly useless with the nice theme.

Quote I don't know why you still bother, Setzer's pretty stupidly useless with the nice theme. apparently somebody has never used H-bomb or summoned Bahamut In the WoB. Nice grammar by the way. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |
