Sushi... my addopted father is a Japanese sushi chef (he's actually Korean) he works at the Shogun here in town, and his sushi is so good that people drive in from like 200 miles away to eat his food... eel roll and spicy tuna, yum.

I eat a lot of pasta and a lot of chicken. Sometimes I mix these two together. They are two of my favourite things that will draw me to a dish. Both are very tasty and very good for me, so I would never turn them down and have yet to get bored of them, despite the vast quantities of the stuff I have consumed over the years.
I shall be cooking chicken fajitas for my girlfriend and her family tonight, one of my favourites. I have yet to find anyone who does not enjoy this meal, so I am feeling confident they will enjoy it! Food is great. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

I'd like to hear from anyone who's tried tounge or es cargo. I have a thing with textures in food, so I doubt I could ever even attempt to eat these two foods without yacking, even if they tasted good.

I LOVE FOOD! Eating like a pig, making a mess, yet staying at 135 lbs (yes, I am a straight male) is so totally me! Pizza, gyros, Chicago red hots, Jimmy John's subs, and generic junk food are my faves.

You mean escargot (snail), I assume? I had it before when I was around 12 or so. Not impressive in the least, but then again, I never did like meat, especially seafood.

Thanks for the replies (and spelling lesson) on tounge and escargot.
I can honestly say that Laszlow's description of tounge grossed me out. The whole chewy rubbery feeling is not something I aspire to experience with my food. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

I never tried escargot, though I would if given the oppourtunity. I did have ox tounge once when I was about 6 or 7, I believe it was very soft, but I remember liking it a lot. I completly forgot about calamari. I love it fried and in salads. -------------------- |

F*** fried rice?!?!?
Ye gods, man! Don't you know that the correct way to visit a Chinese buffet is to first make a bed of fried rice on your plate, then all the other food you want goes nicely on top of that? Once you eat everything off the top, the juices and stuff have seeped down into the rice, making it a perfect finish to the dish. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Quote (ElPachino) Tonepoet: I'm glad you ended up liking the food. It's always nice to expand your culinary horizons! How familiar are you with other East Asian cuisines? Yummy yum, I'm sorta glad you asked. What kinds of food I've liked and eaten are sorta a different note altogether, so I hope nobody minds if I resurrect this already existent thread on the subject. Unfortunately not as much as I'd like and all in restaurants really and mostly just the basics of each too. I'd name particular places I'd eaten but my favorite CoN catchphrase just so happens to be "ASL? LOL!" and I'm not about to name specific places I've been. I can share most of the basic foods I've actually eaten though. Naturally I've had Chinese foods such as Chow Main, Chow Fun, Eggdrop soup, Sweet 'n Sour/Lemon Chicken, Fried Rice, Dumplings, Egg Rolls, Mongolian Beef and the such. I've had some less commonplace here and there dishes too but when I try to think of them they all get pushed out by the vast amount of safe bets. With Thai food I've had barbequed chicken, a virtual rainbow of curry sauces and one place had these little fried things that were made out to look like little bags of money all tied up with what I think was like a piece of spinach. Pad Thai is also quite neat, it's kind of a sweetish sometimes spicy noodle dish with bean sprouts. My mother's own favorite food is Thai, I do so believe. Vietnamese soups are excellent although I've only ever been to this one place. It's always sooooo, sooooo crowded when you go there that when you go there, they just seat you right next to complete and utter strangers. A bit awkward but just thinking about the seafood soup itself makes me salivate. Doesn't help that I'm somewhat thirsty as I'm writing this post either. And then there's Japanese food with the Sushi/Shashimi, the Miso soup, the Yakitori, the Tempura, the little beef strips and the such. At my favorite Japanese place, I usually just end up getting a Bento box special so I can have a little bit of everything they have, it's all so good and very filling too. If there's anything I dislike from moving from one city to another, it's the fact that it's so far out of the way. Oh well, we have plenty of choices for Japanese here too and the sushi boats are a great, great novelty. Unfortunately with far east Asian food, the good to bad ratio isn't all too favorable. I mean you're always going to hit a bad joint no matter what kind of food you seek but with Asian food it's just surprising how much the quality can vary. Some places have left me just wanting to poke my plate and naturally most chains never break the barrier from edible to delicious. Those few places are really truly worth going through more disasters than you can stomach though, so to speak. Just gotta find the right spots... As for food in general, I have a tendency to like Itallian, Japanese and Indian most overall although I couldn't really pick between the three. Regardless of origin, anything that's delicious gets equal approval from me though, there's so much great stuff out there. I kinda want some oven fresh Tandoori chicken right now myself but will have to settle for something from the fridge... A bit awkward but just thinking about the seafood soup itself makes me salivate. Doesn't help that I'm somewhat thirsty as I'm writing this post either. Vietnamese pho is one of my favorite foods ever! I like to get mine with beef brisket and tendon (the softer parts of the cow available). Just the other night, I ate dinner at a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant where my girlfriend and I like to get pho, and I ended up getting their roast duck soup, which is also delicious. Speaking of duck, Beijing duck (a.k.a. Peking duck) is another one of my favorite all time foods. Back in the D.C. metro area there was a great Chinese place that specialized in this type of duck and I even knew the owner. One time I went to visit my sister in Beijing where she was studying abroad, and we tried this famous place called Quanjude (pronounced Chuan-joo-deh) and it was the most delicious duck I've ever had. They don't sell anything less than a full duck and when they say full duck they mean it. They even make soup out of the bones (it's a white broth) and serve it on the side. My sister and I were so full afterward, but it was totally worth it. Sadly, since moving to Western NY, I have yet to find a place that has good Beijing duck (I've found other types of duck though). I guess I'll have to keep looking. So there are two of my favorite foods. I have more, but this post is already pretty long, so I'll save some for later. -------------------- Wha? Thanks to me? |
