This is...strange. Unless I'm TOTALLY missing something?
I've just made it to disk 3, I've got my golden chocobo, KNOTR, lots and lots of high-level materia (that I'm still working on building up), and I've decided to knock out the 3 weapons in order: Ultimate, Ruby, Emerald. Well, I've taken out Ultimate. Now, on to that pesky Ruby! Oh-wait...er...where is he?? He's NOT IN THE SAND! GAH! Someone help me out here...is this a bug, or have I made a mistake and not done something necessary yet??? Thank you! |

He should be there in the Sand and should just appear. umm.. try going to emerald weapon and seeing if hes there. maybe try switching discs and going somewhere. thats odd though.

Emerald is there...but I think Ruby must be afraid of me, hehe.
The advice about switching discs is not feasible, because I'm using the PC version. I'm going to pull my hair out. : ( Now, what do you mean "He should just appear"...it's been awhile since I played so I may have forgotten...does he come and go? ah well that does make it difficult to switch discs then. do you have a previous save game thats not too far behind? try doing the next thing in the story unless its Fighting Sephiroth. other than that i have no clue and Good luck

He sdhould just appear outside of gold saucer as a red tentacle, although even in PSX there are some times that he is not there. seems as though he should definately be showing up. you could go race some chocobos and try to get 8 counter materias.

Good news, guys!!
I re-loaded the game a couple of times, and he eventually showed up...? No telling what caused it, but it looks like if it ever happens to me again, I'll at least know what to do. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else? I don't know if this is a repeat question, but since I've already got a thread open: I'm trying to follow the "second" set of instructions from this site on how to defeat ruby. What I don't understand, is how it leaves out of the instructions what you're supposed to do about those nasty tentacles behind you. If you use dazers anytime after casting KOTR, then that is the action that's going to be mimed. Meaning...that if you've just gotten KOTR materia (like me), that's the last time you'll be able to cast it during the fight. But if you do nothing but mime KOTR, you can't do anything to paralyze Ruby or his tentacles... Did that make sense?? |

Or you can use W-summon and summon Hades and Kotr and just mimic that for the rest of the battle. IIRC, Hades stops Ruby Weapon, so he will constantly be stopped and damaged. Hopefully that works.

Yeah...that's what those instructions that I mentioned say to do, but I can't survive the tentacles long enough to keep the mimic cycle going. I'd use the dazers to stun the tentacles, but if I do, I can't mimic KOTR/Hades anymore because mimic only repeats the last action performed. : (
I suppose I'll just master KOTR (and the rest of my materia while I'm at it, so I can collect all of the Masters from Cosmo Canyon), and then just stomp the poop outta Ruby the old fasioned way. : ) |

you could also have a counter paired with mime, which is my favorite strategy for the weapons, I ususally have cid with some sourced up stats, a full limit gauge (highwind). Normally I have six counters and mimes. Use highwind, and then mime, and when he is attacked he'll use mime however many times you have a paired counter materia.
