Final Fantasy III?
Seriously, I don't really know. I've played Seiken Densetsu II, but alot of people have played that. I played the first two SaGa games on the Gameboy (grey brick that it was), I don't know if those are considered 'obscure' or not. -------------------- |

Which ones are obscure? Japanese games that haven't been released in English? In that case, I played:
FF3 (NES) FF5 (SNES): before it was released on the PS1 Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES) As for the U.S. releases that aren't as frequently cited, I've played: Breath of Fire (SNES) Bushido Blade 2 (PS1) Ehrgeiz (arcade, PS1) Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) Final Fantasy Legend II (GB) Final Fantasy Legend III (GB) King's Knight (NES) Parasite Eve (PS1) Rad Racer (NES) Tobal No. 1 (PS1) To be honest, nothing that Square or Square-Enix made after 1997 can really be called obscure. FF7 launched this company into stardom, even though it was already well-known among RPG fans. Just wondering, since I've played Live a Live, Rudra no Hihou, and Bahamut Lagoon
 on an imported SNES (which has recently been devastated  ). Oh, and Radical Dreamers through - ahem - backdoor methods. FFLs, too, on the GB.It seems I have a penchant for playing obscure, Japanese-only releases on the SNES. Well, since my cousin gave me one with a bundle of Japanese games, anyway. Given the popularity of SNES emulation, particularly a few years back, LaL, BL, and RD are hardly obscure for internet users. I'd say PE is far more obscure since it didn't quite take off as solidly as it should've.

I don't know what you mean by obscure, so I listed pretty much every game except the Final Fantasy series -- the GB "Final Fantasy" games are from other series -- Chrono Trigger, and Seiken Densetsu games from SNES onward. Well, I've played every single game mentioned so far other than Tobal No. 1 (which is supposedly not nearly as good as No. 2, which I also haven't played), King's Knight, and Rad Racer. Several years ago games like Seiken Densetsu III and Bahamut Lagoon might have been considered obscure, but not anymore they're not.

live-a-live or rad racer would have to be the most obscure square games i've played. neither one of them was really worth the play.

Meh...I was gonna say secret of evermore....but it wasn't that obscure...
Parasite Eve, nah... I did play Einhander and I loved the first bushido blade...Tobal no. 1 and the Bouncer come to mind as well. -------------------- This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy. I was a soldier, now I just play one in video games. |

Oh, and the original Brave Fencer Musashi is sort of obscure, except not really. Still worth playing, though.

I guess I gotta go with Rad Racer, but when it came out it wasn't obscure. Since it was published by Nintendo, it wasn't obvious who really developed it until later (at least it wasn't obvious to me). And back then, it was an awesome game. Harder than hell for me, though.
Did the OP mean obscure as in "nobody knows of these games" or obscure as in "few people have played them?" It was too much of an attempt at mixing fighting/RPG without really utilizing either to the fullest capacity. It was really story driven and could have been more well recieved if Square had tried to focus on the fighting element of it.
