Quote (No-Name @ 16th June 2006 21:51) I really like VI, it tells you whats going on and really makes you feel like you're playing more than just a game, sure it's only 16-bit but i love it anyway. VIII was good but i like VI better. NoName, because of your post I dug out the PSX version and wow, I forgotten how breathtaking it was. Thanks for reminding me. As much as I still love the foreshadowing and interweaving in the FFVIII intro, the little taste of the richness of the FFVI story brings it back into contention! Don't want to keep loading random discs to know for sure? Try these: FFTactics Intro, via YouTube. Best game evar. FF CrystalChronicles Intro, via YouTube. Rich in detail, it feels like a show's opening.` FinalFantasy via YouTube. Musically, this one is flawless victory. FFII Opening, via YouTube. Psx revised to be way more exciting! FFIIIds, via YouTube. Doh; the newest is all I could find. A great glimpse into IIIds. FFIV, via YouTube. I loved the PsX reVision. A wee bit of FFIV memories interwoven. FFV Intro, obtusely available via YouTube. FFVI Intro, via YouTube. Breathtaking, and flawless modelling. FFVII Opening, via YouTube. Loved this rendering style. FFVIII Opening, via YouTube. A living advertisement into FinalFantasy Great. FFIX Intro, via YouTube. Beautiful art direction, if kawaii.* FFX Opening. Brilliant immersion (ha!) in the advanced, amazing world of X. FFX-2 Intro. Secretly introducing game mechanics while revisiting the world of X! FFXI Install. A tragic start and a hopeful end, leaving you ready to create a char! FFXII Opening. Finally, we will walk in the streets of Ivalice, not just fight from afar! ` Rewatching this, I would love to replay it. We did this over DnD for a while! *I think, of all the intros, this has the most thematic elements of FinalFantasy's; nicely representative. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

VIII's intro, easily, X-2's was cringe inducing
VIII's was only let down by zero action 4 about an hour afterward with all those stupid tutorials no1 needed (well they where useful at 1st but still, stupid) -------------------- In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't. |

I'm going with FFVII's FMV intro. It doesn't match up with the graphics of any of the games after it, or even the FMVs from the re-releases. But at the time it came out, and since it was the first thing you saw when playing the game, it was pretty breath-taking. The scene zooming out from Aerith and showing all of Midgar was awesome.

Quote (Crazyswordsman @ 16th June 2006 20:35) Final Fantasy IV. It was the first I ever saw, and the music amazed me, as did the warfare state as supposed to something personal like we see in later games. -CSM Agreed. As far as the next-generation Final Fantasies are concerned, FF8 has the best introduction, even though I didn't like the rest of the game. The music was awesome, and the animated fight scene was a vast improvement over the FMV scenes seen in FF7 and Final Fantasy Tactics. -------------------- The world before the fall... Researching where all the intros were on YouTube put me in the mood to play FFIX
again. That's seems a good testimony to its staying power. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

omg that FFIIIDS intro was awesome. It just starts out and FMVs and Elia's them and *nostalgia explosion*
I'm getting that game, for sure. I'm really surprised that the DS will have FMVs, of all things! (If those are indeed, from the game.) It's also funny how they rub in that it hasn't been released outside of Japan yet. ![]() This post has been edited by Zeromus_X on 19th July 2006 01:41 -------------------- |

Final Fantasy 5 (the original snes intro, not the fmv). The music was so expressive.

I'm with you on that, ZeromusX. FFTA was my reason to buy a GameboySP; FFIIIds
looks to be more than ample and sufficient evidence that now I need a DS. And once I have it, of course, I can finally take a crack at those brain games, and the latest Mario. Really, there aren't any disadvantages to the DS now; the One-Game to make ready my mind has definitely arrived. Hrnh. The other Intros-As-Previews that determined my gaming choices would have to be FFVIII for the PC (first reason I ever saw to game on a PC; videocard + workstation = poor semester---doh!) and FFXII, which still blows my mind that it'll arrive on a PS2, and not the PS3 (thus it's $600 less than I was prepared to spend on it!). My first taste of FFVII was seeing my bestfriend summon the KnightsOfTheRound. Wow. Only later would I make the connection of the main character and weird television ads. It's one of the few games my bro still plays, that's not WoW. DeGenerate82, thanks, mon. Your fervor for FFIX totally brightens my replay. I still remember how excited you would get, even over TetraMaster and the plight of Vivi. I imagine plenty of people on these boards, here at CoN, based their hardware purchases on the whims of one particular company. If that's the case, I'm in good company. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

FF VI--the the text, the mode 7 graphics on the credits screen, the music--it was perfect. I've said this enough times, but an emulator just doesn't do it justice. Buy IIIus if you can, its worth it.

I'd say IX, but there's the problem of when the intro ends and the gameplay begins, which IS actually very much liquid here...VIII had a nice intro (pretty much the only thing nice about it), but I like the old introduction sequences most, especially in II and VI.

Actually, the seamless way the intro just led into the gameplay was something I really loved about FF9's intro sequence!!
![]() But I think the best intro for me would have to be FF11. I still remember seeing it (before I knew it was online), and thinking how much I wanted to just get into the game and start playing. FF9 and FF10 are the runners-up. |

I love the intros that can stand on their own, like little snapshots of the game itself.
Did anyone watch or play the CrystalChronicles one? That game was fun, and the intermix of singing with animation really reminded us of SpiritsWithin. What really sux, tho, is investing in all the hardware, and now being away from my co-op gamer friends. Everyone I know now are casual gamers, except a rabid X360 fan... I loved how FFVIII flowed into the game story itself (waking in the nfirmary after the battle), without forcing it. Good direction. I think the revisions of FFIV and FFVI alone would've had me leaving for Gamestop, checkcard in hand, had they been released originally. FFVIII, FFXI, and the FFXII are also great openings with a beginning, middle, and end---and as such, those five are definitely my favourite. There's so many momentous scenes in Tactics that I wish there were more pivotal acts depicted in the fmv. Ditto for FFVII. And I'd love FFIX's more if it didn't end with Zidane totally bumming out the regality of the rest of the intro, with him just kicking it on the theatre-ship. After seeing snips of the glory of the game, why end with the monkeyboy? Arg! ![]() -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |
