I was studying in a music class about old style music like medieval music and theres a chord which is called "The Devils Triangle".
coincidentally the first chord in Sephiroths theme One Winged Angel is those 3 notes, The devils triangle. just a random bit of info you might find intersting -------------------- Sata Tsubasa no Tenshi- Barret - "Cloud the group has been talking and we feel that its time for a new leader." Cloud - "Judas explain your treachery!!" Some people say its sad when I can walk them through FFVII in my head. I call it a gift. |

it's called the "sunken triad" and is the particularly disharmonic chordal sequence created by playing the semitone-dropped 5th over the root -- it's also the basis for the theoretical locrian mode (which likewise has a dropped 5th), so cacaphonic it was never used in music until modern times. "purple haze" starts with jimi and noel harmonising the sunken triad, and the locrian mode has beome extremely popular in metal music. it's not at all uncommon.

thanks for that. my understanding was that it was outlawed by the church and at that time the church owned everything, but that makes sense, thanks

Jazz sometimes makes use of this, and the Locrian mode. I can't quite think of any songs to use as an example (maybe something by Coltrane? Nothing specific comes to mind, admittedly) but it definately stands out when you hear it.
