I think that Terra is the main character because most of the WoB is about Terra and the WoR isn't as long as the WoB, so personally i guess that makes Terra the main character.

You all make me look like an ass as I'm the only one who voted for Celes. In my defense, I haven't beaten the game yet and I'm stayin' away from any and all possible spoilers despite the age of the game.

I was truly amazed at how many people voted for Terra. To me, there's no question. The protagonist is the character who actually does something and who is relevant to more of the plot than anyone else, not the character who quits in the middle because she wants to be a mommy, and who turns out to be an optional recruit by the end.

Terra is the link between the human world and the esper world - and her discovery and abilities completely changed the Empire and the world as we know it.
Celes is just a general turned traitor who falls in love with Locke, that's it. Just because Terra played less of a role in the second part of the game, it doesnt make her less important. The important parts of the story happened before the world was torn, and terra played a huge part in it. -------------------- I'VE HAD AN ETERNITY TO PONDER THE MEANING OF THINGS. Terra is the main character. Almost all of the characters have individual subplots dedicated to them, but it is Terra's development that is most closely tied to the overall story of the game in both the World of Balance and the World of Ruin.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view In the World of Balance, Terra's importance is obvious. She is the link between humans and espers. Because of that fact, she is manipulated by both the empire and the Returners. The beginning of the game establishes her as the emotional centre of the plot. Both sides of the war want to use her to their own benefit, and no one seems to care about her confusion and loneliness. Thereafter, the game follows Terra's search for identity, companionship, and a sense of purpose independent of the will of others like Gestahl and Banon. In this regard, the fact that the World of Ruin begins with Celes only strengthens the case for Terra. Once Kefka ends the battle between the empire and the Returners (by destroying both), Terra is finally free to go her own way. Celes' love for Locke makes her a convenient character with whom to begin the World of Ruin while Terra builds a life for herself for the first time. This is important for the development of Terra as a character. As someone else has already mentioned in this topic, Celes has no problem convincing the other characters to continue the fight against Kefka. Terra's initial refusal to fight is rooted in the feelings she first reveals on her first trip to Figaro Castle in the World of Balance: she had been caught up in a war that didn't make sense to her and had felt that she was not living her own life. The orphans give her the love and the sense of purpose that she had craved all along. It is only when she realizes that the children's lives are endangered by Kefka that she decides---by her own free will---to fight him. This is the resolution of her journey as a character, the moment at which she finally comes into her own. It is no coincidence that Terra is always present at the end of the game, even if you don't get her to join your group before entering Kefka's Tower. She is there because she chooses to be, not because someone coerced her into it. Her unbound hair in the ending nicely reflects this new freedom. Or something like that. Alexandr, you pretty much said it all!!
For me, it would have to be most likely Terra because the story does revolve around her and she is my favorite character in the game. ![]() -------------------- Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Chrsit for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost Acts 4:12 Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost |
