Can anyone tell me the best way to beat the Darksteel Dragon? It's pretty well wrecked me 4 times now.
All my characters are between levels 43 and 46. Hero has mastered spears, and I have him equipped with the Metal King Spear. Yangus has mastered axes, and I have him equipped with the Conqueror's Axe. Jessica has mastered swords, and I have her equipped with the Uber Miracle. Angelo has mastered swords as well, and I have him equipped with the Hell Saber. My technique for beating the Lord of the Dragovians up to this point has pretty much been as follows: Kabuff/Accelerate up to maximum. Hero uses Multithrust, Yangus uses Helm Splitter, Jessica uses the Sage's Stone, and Angelo alternates between using Falcon Slash and the Sage's Stone (yes, I have two of them). This has worked on all the Lord of the Dragovians' other incarnations. I've tried modifying my strategy by having Hero use Dragon Slash and having Angelo using Metal Slash, but he gets 3 consecutive attacks, which pretty well does it. Are my levels too low? Are there whip/hammer/boomerang techniques that work better? -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! I am impervious to pain! |

Well, Jessica is for Oomphing the fighters, and Angelo for healing, so I would suggest maxing out staves for them for extra spells, though it's too late now. Though with two Sage's Stones, healing is taken care of.
If Hero has the Multithrust ability for Spears, then use that. Although an excellent way to increase tension to the point where you don't waste turns is the Timbrel of Tensions (the recipe is given by one of the villagers in the Dragon Village), and it increases all members' tension by a level. (And it never runs out, like a Sage's Stone.) And of course, leveling up wouldn't hurt, although it's certainly possible at those levels. Using Kabuff and Accelerate will waste turns, since they all have that annoying 'wall of ice' attack, use Jessica to Oomph up your fighters (it's the only worthwhile buffer spell.) And when she does that, try using Magic Barrier or Insulate (if not Timbrel of Tension.) And always heal. Always. But definitely, try getting two Timbrels of Tensions, that should make the damage output increase significantly. -------------------- |

Using Oomph and ToTs is good advice, but better advice is to ignore the Darksteel's defense altogether. The Lightning Thrust spear skill and the Executioner axe skill will hit 50% of the time, but if they connect they will always land a critical hit. Have the Hero and Yangus use and abuse them. Critical hits do 1.5x damage and ignore enemy defense, and for that reason those two skills are the best ways to take down Darksteel and any kind of metal slime. Good luck with it.
