What's the difference between the SNES and PSX versions of FF4? I heard the SNES version is really dumbed down but is it still worth trying to get over the PSX version? I've never played either one.

That game had so much releases it's not funny
![]() Final Fantasy 4 was actually released as Final Fantasy 2 in the US, and yes it was degraded from the original. The dialogues were cheesy and had many parts where bad english was involved. It still wasn't a bad one, though. I recommend you play that one because it's much easier and you'd get more used to it. They even removed Antidotes, Eyedrops, Echo Screens, etc. and they were replaced with Heal (Translated Remedy) The PlayStation version of Final Fantasy 4 (The original hardtype kind)was rereleased along with Chrono Trigger in the FF Chronicles pack and for the people in Europe, it was rereleased along with Final Fantasy 5 for FF Anthology in Europe (Not the FF Anthology in the US). There's also Final Fantasy IV Advance if you own a Gameboy Advance. I recommend buying it because the game finally has an ATB gauge and there are special features such as the bestiary and bonus dungeons features. And besides FF2us is very rare and the best place to find uses copies of it is at Ebay. Or you could download a rom of Final Fantasy 4 and emulate it with an emulator. You have to find the rom yourself but you can download an emulator at this site. |

Additionally, there was an even easier version (nicknamed the "easytype") that was released in Japan only, as I recall.
The most visually noticeable difference I remember, from reading about it on the internet, is that the final boss has a distinctly different sprite--the one carrying a sword and with half the body of a woman in the middle. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Also the Wonderswan Color version released in Japan only that the graphics of the GBA version adopted. (Of course, if you ask me, the WSC has ugly as hell sounds.)

Never had a WonderSwan. Anyone care to elaborate on the FF4 version for said platform?

It was only released in Japan. It was a relatively unsuccessful system, but there were ports of FFI, II, and a planned port for III. Of course, the GBA came around, and...

Is the sound better in the US SNES version than in the PSX version or the GBA version?

The PS1 and SNES versions both have the same sound, from what I can tell. Depending on how you thought, sure, you could say the GBA version sound is better, but that's only on the GBA. If you listened to an Mp3 of any song from the SNES version and compared it to a Mp3 of a GBA version song, you'd probably think the former sounded of better quality.
But that's just me. Edit: Not taking into account the WSC version. We're past the NES now. -------------------- |
